Amsterdamsche Football Club, commonly known as AFC is a association football, football club based in Amsterdam. The team compete in the Tweede Divisie, the third level of the Dutch football league system. History 19th century: Foundation AFC was founded in 1895 when a group of young Amsterdammers decided to create a football club. On 18 January 1895 the founding meeting took place in the basement of a house on the Koninginneweg where after a long discussion the name "Amsterdamsche Football Club (AFC)" was chosen. The meeting was held by six boys aged fifteen and sixteen. Four of them being Gerard Scheepens, Hein Brass, Frits Bernard and G.J. Bernard. Eredivisie
The Eredivisie (; "Honour Division" or "Premier Division") is a professional association football league in the Netherlands and the highest level of the Dutch football league system. The league was founded in 1956, two years after the start of professional football in the Netherlands. As of the 2024–25 season, it is UEFA coefficient#Men's association coefficient, ranked the sixth-best league in Europe by UEFA. The Eredivisie consists of 18 clubs. Each club meets every other club twice during the season, once at home and once away. Gérard ("Gé") van Dijk (15 August 1923 in Amsterdam – 29 May 2005) was a Dutch football player and coach. Peter Dougall
Peter Dougall (21 March 1909 – 12 June 1974) was a Scottish footballer who played at inside left for various clubs in the 1920s and 1930s. He later managed in the Netherlands. Football career Dougall was born in Denny, Stirlingshire and played for Dunipace as a youth before moving to England to join Burnley of the Football League First Division in October 1926, aged 17 (his brother Billy had joined the ''Clarets'' around six months earlier). He broke into the first team in the following season when he replaced the well-established inside left Joe Devine for six matches, scoring twice. James Elliot Donnelly (18 December 1893 – 3 June 1959) was an Irish professional football player and manager. As a player, he played as a full back in the Football League for Blackburn Rovers, Accrington Stanley, Southend United, Brentford and Thames. Peter Donaghy (born 13 January 1898) was an English professional footballer who played as a forward for Middlesbrough, Bradford City and Carlisle United. Career Born in Grangetown, Donaghy moved from Grangetown St Mary's to Middlesbrough in August 1919, making his debut (against future club Bradford City) on 24 April 1920. Thomas George Bromilow (7 October 1894 – 4 March 1959) was an English international left half footballer who played for Liverpool between 1919 and 1930. He was virtually ever-present during the back-to-back League title triumphs of the early 1920s. Life and playing career Born in West Derby, Liverpool, England, Bromilow was signed by Liverpool after the 24-year-old turned up at Anfield one afternoon in 1919 asking for a trial.
