AmpFest
AmpFest - Clash of the Bands is an initiative of a West Australian Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and has been held in May each year since 2003 by five Councils, in the western suburbs of Perth, comprising the City of Nedlands, the Town of Claremont, the Town of Mosman Park, the City of Subiaco and the City of Vincent. The Town of Cambridge was one of the original organising Councils but withdrew and was replaced by the City of Nedlands. The project is designed to provide young Perth bands with an opportunity to further their skills in the music industry and provide them with a platform to play their music in a public arena, as well as provide other young people with the opportunity to attend free, local, live, all-ages entertainment. The inaugural AmpFest was held in 2003 with 57 bands applying to take part and over 700 people attending the four heats that year. Town Of Claremont
The Town of Claremont is a local government area in the inner western suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth, located about halfway between the port city of Fremantle and Perth's central business district. Town Of Mosman Park
The Town of Mosman Park is a local government area of Western Australia. It covers an area of approximately 4.3 km² in western metropolitan Perth, the capital of Western Australia and lies about 14 km southwest of the Perth CBD and 5 km from Fremantle. History The Buckland Hill Road District was created on 6 October 1899. It was renamed the Cottesloe Beach Road District on 2 July 1909, but reverted to the Buckland Hill name on 10 October 1930. It was renamed the Mosman Park Road District on 12 February 1937. City Of Subiaco
The City of Subiaco is a local government area in Western Australia. It covers an area of approximately 7 km² in inner western metropolitan Perth and lies about 3 km west of the Perth CBD. The City includes the historically working-class suburb of Subiaco centred around Rokeby Road. Since the 1990s the area has been extensively redeveloped and gentrified. History A group of Benedictine monks settled in Subiaco in 1851. They called their monastery New Subiaco after the birthplace of the Benedictine Order – Subiaco, Italy. In 1881, the name Subiaco was adopted for a railway station near the monastery, and later for the cluster of houses and businesses that became the present Subiaco. The Western Australian Music Industry Awards (commonly known as WAMis) are annual awards presented to the local contemporary music industry, put on by the Western Australian Music Industry Association Inc (WAM). The WAMi Awards are Western Australia Music's night of nights, bringing together local music fans and members of local, national and international industry to acknowledge and celebrate another year of achievements for Western Australia. History WAM was originally formed as the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Association Inc. (WARMIA) in 1985, with its main aim to develop and run annual awards recognising achievements within the music industry in Western Australia. Subiaco (known colloquially as Subi) is an inner- western suburb of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is approximately west of Perth's central business district, in the City of Subiaco local government area. Historically a working-class suburb containing a mixture of industrial and commercial land uses, since the 1990s the area has been one of Australia's most celebrated urban redevelopment projects. National Campus Band Competition
The National Campus Music Competition (previously known as the National Campus Band Competition) is an annual Australian music competition specifically for tertiary students. The comp was created in 1990 by members of the volunteer organisation, ''Australian Association of Campus Activities,'' which later become a part of the Tertiary Access Group (TAG). The first Adelaide Student Band Competition was held in 1983 and the Victorian Student Band Competition was held in 1986, after an observation by Activities Officers on campus, that there were hundreds of student bands with nowhere to play, and needed an extra incentive to have a go. The brain-child of a bunch of Campus Activities Officers was enacted by posters on campus, and the response was staggering. The competition was such a success that by 1990 it went national. Crawley, Western Australia
Crawley is an affluent western suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. Whole area is part of the local government area of the City of Perth and previously shared between the City of Subiaco and City of Perth. It is about from the Perth CBD via Mounts Bay Road. Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. As a touring act, Tame Impala consists of Parker (guitar, vocals), Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesiser), Jay Watson (synthesiser, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass guitar, vocals), and Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals).
