Amann Cánovas Maruri
Amann Cánovas Maruri is a Spanish architecture firm established in Madrid in 1998. Its three eponymous co-founding partners are Atxu Amann Alcocer, Andrés Cánovas Alcaraz, and Nicolás Maruri Mendoza. The concern is perhaps most well known for its design of the pavilion of Spain at Expo 2020 in Dubai, U.A.E. The pavilion employs a series of very distinctly hued conical volumes which facilitate greater air circulation for temperature moderation. The structure also features a series of domes which created using recyclable materials like wood, iron, and fabric, in addition to referencing traditional insulation techniques in combination with innovative solutions. The pavilion is situated in the "Sustainability" section of the Expo. Their work is the subject of the volume "TA 18- Collective Housing - Amann- Canovas- Maruri". Expo 2020 () was a World Expo hosted in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. Originally scheduled for 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Arab Emirates. Carmen Espegel
Carmen Espegel Alonso (Palencia, 1960) is a Doctor of Architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (Spain), where she teaches Architectural Project classes representing the Espegel Teaching Unit. She has been working at her own studio since 1985 and in 2003 she founded the firm ''espegel-fisac arquitectos''. Her reference work, "Heroines of Space. Women Architects in the Modern Movement" (), is a theoretical and historical synthesis of the role of women in Architecture. Biography Carmen Espegel was born in Palencia and at the age of 16 she moved to Madrid to take el Curso de Orientación Universitaria and start working on her Architecture degree at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, which she completed in 1985 with honors. Carabanchel
Carabanchel is a district of Madrid, Spain. It lies on the southern (right) bank of the Manzanares, spanning southward down to the M-40 ring road. The district is made up of the neighbourhoods of Abrantes, Comillas, Opañel, Puerta Bonita, San Isidro and Vista Alegre. Overview The area was the scene of fierce fighting during the Spanish Civil War -especially in November 1936, during the Battle of Madrid, when Nationalist troops tried to fight their way into the area. Unaccustomed to street fighting, they took heavy casualties. For the remainder of the Siege of Madrid, the front lines ran through the streets of Carabanchel, until Republican Madrid fell in March 1939.
