Aluva () is a Municipalities of Kerala, municipality and a northern suburb of the city of Kochi in Kerala. It is located about north of the city centre. Aluva is known for the Aluva Sivarathri festival, Sivarathri festival, which is celebrated annually on the sandbanks of the Periyar River. The Alwaye Advaita Ashram, Advaita Ashram in Aluva, founded in 1913 by Narayana Guru, Sree Narayana Guru, an Indian social reformer, further enhances the region’s cultural heritage. Aluva Sivarathri Festival
Aluva Sivarathri Festival is the Sivarathri celebrated in Aluva Mahadeva Temple in Aluva, Kochi in the state of Kerala, India The celebration of Sivarathri in Aluva is very famous in Kerala. The month of Kumbham is noted for the Sivarathri festival which falls in February – March. Aluva Sivarathri is celebrated at the Shiva, Siva temple on the banks of Periyar River and this place is called the Aluva Manal Puram (land with sand). Pilgrims offer Bali (sacrifice) to their ancestors in the morning succeeding the holy night. Near the bank of periyar, Aluva Manal Puram (also called Manappuram), there will be many stalls installed for people for purchasing, shopping, exhibitions, and adventure rides for children and adults. People from all religions becomes the part of the festival. It will remain for two weeks after the offerings of Bali. The festival is celebrated as a remembrance for the lord Shiva. Aluva Metro Station
Aluva is an elevated metro station serving as the northern terminal of the Kochi Metro. It is located besides the Aluva flyover near the Aluva market and the banks of the Periyar river. Spread over an area of 1.5 lakh square feet, it is Kochi Metro’s second biggest station after Vadakkekota. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 17 June and opened for public on 19 June 2017 as a part of the first stretch of the metro system, between Aluva and Palarivattom. Aluva Metro station has Periyar river as its theme. Along with images of rivers, the floors of the station are also designed to symbolize the river water resources. Sree Narayana Guru () (20 August 1856 – 20 September 1928) was a philosopher, Spiritual Leader, spiritual leader and Social Reformer, social reformer in India.
