Altmühl Valley Nature Park
The Altmühl Valley Nature Park () is a nature park, 2,962 km² in area, in the south German state of Bavaria. The area of the park is almost coextensive with that of the natural region major unit of the Southern Franconian Jura (''Südliche Frankenalb''). It lies immediately north of the city of Ingolstadt on the River Danube and is divided into a southern and northern Altmühl Valley. Description The nature park was established on 25 July 1969 in Pappenheim by society formed for the purpose, the ''Naturpark Altmühltal (Südliche Frankenalb)'' ("Altmühl Valley Nature Park (Southern Franconian Jura)"). It is the fourth largest nature park in Germany after the Central/North Black Forest Nature Park, Bergstraße-Odenwald Nature Park and Southern Black Forest Nature Park. Franconian Jura
The Franconian Jura ( , , or ) is an upland in Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. Located between two rivers, the Danube in the south and the Main in the north, its peaks reach elevations of up to and it has an area of some 7053.8 km2. The Southern Black Forest Nature Park () is located in Baden-Württemberg in Germany and covers an area of . As of 2018, it is Germany's largest nature park. History The Southern Black Forest Nature Park was established on February 1, 1999. The original area of 333,000 hectares was expanded to 370,000 hectares in 2005, and finally to its present size of 394,000 hectares in 2014. It is one of seven nature parks in Baden-Württemberg. Eichstätt is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the south and clockwise) the districts of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, Donau-Ries, Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, Roth, Neumarkt, Kelheim and Pfaffenhofen, and by the city of Ingolstadt. History The district of Eichstätt in its present form was established in 1972 by merging the former district of Eichstätt with parts of the dissolved districts of Ingolstadt, Beilngries, Riedenburg and Hilpoltstein. The city of Eichstätt lost its status as a district-free city and became the capital of the new district. Today the Eichstätt district has powerful economic structures. A nature park, or sometimes natural park, is a designation for a protected area by means of long-term land planning, sustainable resource management and limitation of agricultural and real estate developments. These valuable landscapes are preserved in their present ecological state and promoted for ecotourism purposes. The Central/North Black Forest Nature Park () is located in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It covers an area of 3,750 km2 and was founded in December 2000. As of 2018, it is the third-largest nature park in Germany. In 2014, the Black Forest National Park opened within the Central/North Black Forest Nature Park.
