Alsace is a rural locality in the Central Highlands Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Alsace had a population of 3 people. Geography The land is at an elevation of approximately and is principally used for grazing. A number of creek flow through the locality towards its south-east where in neighbouring Dingo, they become tributaries of Lorraine Creek, which flows into the Mackenzie River and then the Fitzroy River, which enters the Coral Sea to the south of Rockhampton. The Fitzroy Developmental Road forms the western boundary of the locality which has no internal roads. History The locality is named after a pastoral property on the Leichhardt River. In the early 1870s, F.A. Brodie named two adjoining properties Alsace and Lorraine after the two regions Alsace and Lorraine in France that were lost to Germany in the Franco-Prussian War. Coral Sea
The Coral Sea () is a marginal sea of the South Pacific off the northeast coast of Australia, and classified as an interim Australian bioregion. The Coral Sea extends down the Australian northeast coast. Most of it is protected by the French Natural Park of the Coral Sea (french: Parc Naturel de la Mer de Corail) and the Australian Coral Sea Marine Park. The sea was the location for the Battle of the Coral Sea, a major confrontation during World War II between the navies of the Empire of Japan, and the United States and Australia. The sea contains numerous islands and reefs, as well as the world's largest reef system, the Great Barrier Reef (GBR), which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1981. Middlemount is a rural town and locality in the Isaac Region, Queensland, Australia. In the the locality of Middlemount had a population of 1,841 people. It is nicknamed the "Giant Peanut" by some locals due to its peanut-shaped road layout. Geography Middlemount is located inland (by road) from Mackay and Rockhampton in Central Queensland. It is a town in a significant coal mining area in Central Queensland. The name of the township was inspired by the dark colour of local waterholes. Leichhardt River
The Leichhardt River is a river in north west Queensland, Australia. Course The source of the river is in the Selwyn Range under Rifle Creek Hill and fed by Rifle Creek approximately south of the mining town Mount Isa. It runs in a generally northerly direction almost parallel with the Diamantina Developmental Road until it reaches Mount Isa and crosses the Barkly Highway. It continues in a north easterly direction across the Gulf Country passing through Lake Moondarra past Glenroy Station then through Lake Julius. It then bears east then north again almost parallel with the Burke Developmental Road until crossing it near Nardoo. Fitzroy Developmental Road
The Fitzroy Developmental Road is a designated road in the Central Highlands Region of Queensland consisting of three separate sections. The general direction is from south to north. Route description Southern section The southern section leaves the Leichhardt Highway at a point north of Taroom as State Route 7. This section meets the Dawson Highway in the locality of Rhydding, east of Bauhinia. Middle section The middle section, as State Route 7, runs from Bauhinia north until it meets the Capricorn Highway about west of Duaringa, and east of Dingo. It passes through the Dawson Range State Forest between Woorabinda and Duaringa. The Fitzroy River ( Darumbal: ''Toonooba'') is a river located in Central Queensland, Australia. Its catchment covers an area of , making it the largest river catchment flowing to the eastern coast of Australia. It is also the largest river basin that discharges onto the Great Barrier Reef. Course and features Formed by the confluence of the Mackenzie and Dawson rivers that drain the Expedition Range and the Carnarvon Range respectively, the Fitzroy River rises near Duaringa and flows initially north by east, then northward near the Goodedulla National Park.
