Almeda Lambert
Almeda Lambert (born Almeda Maria West; September 9, 1863 – March 13, 1921) was an American cookbook writer and businessperson. A Seventh-day Adventist, she authored a ''Guide for Nut Cookery'' (1899), a vegetarian cookbook with around 1,000 nut-based recipes, featuring the first recorded recipes for dairy-free ice cream, eggnog, and boiled peanuts. Alongside her husband Joseph, she co-founded two companies that played a key role in establishing the commercial production of peanut butter in the United States. Biography Early and personal life Almeda Maria West was born in Marquette County, Wisconsin, on September 9, 1863. In 1890, she married Joseph Lambert of Battle Creek, Michigan, a former machinist who, by the mid-1890s, had invented a grinder for making peanut butter. Marquette County, Wisconsin
Marquette County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,592. Its county seat is Montello. The county was created in 1836 from the Wisconsin Territory and organized in 1848. The county is considered a high-recreation retirement destination by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. History Naturalist John Muir and his parents first settled in the US in 1849 on a farm in Marquette County. Muir was 11 years old. Part of the land of their farm is reserved in Fountain Lake Farm, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (1.9%) is water. The Mecan River, Buffalo Lake, and Puckaway Lake lie within Marquette County. Ella Eaton Kellogg
Ella Eaton Kellogg (April 7, 1853 – June 14, 1920) was an American dietitian known for her work on home economics and Vegetarianism, vegetarian cooking. She was educated at Alfred University (B.A. 1872, A.M. 1875); and the American School Household Economics (1909). In 1875, Kellogg visited the Battle Creek Sanitarium, became interested in the subjects of sanitation and hygiene, and a year later enrolled in the Sanitarium School of Hygiene. Later on, she joined the editorial staff of ''Good Health'' magazine, and in 1879, married Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, superintendent of the Battle Creek Sanitarium. Kellogg was prominently identified with the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), in 1882 being appointed national superintendent of the Department of Hygiene. Three years later, she was appointed associate superintendent of the Social Purity department of the WCTU.
