Allsvenskan (; ), also known as Fotbollsallsvenskan (, ) is a professional association football league in Sweden and the highest level of the Swedish football league system. Founded in 1924, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Superettan, the second highest league in the Swedish football, Swedish men's football league system. Seasons run from late March or early April to the beginning of November, with the 16 clubs all meeting each other twice, resulting in a 30-match season, for a total of 240 matches league-wide. Allsvenskan is ranked 23rd in the UEFA coefficients of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. Allsvenskan is currently ranked third highest among the leagues in Scandinavia, after UEFA coefficient#Current ranking, Norway and Denmark. IFK Göteborg
Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Göteborg (officially IFK Göteborg Fotboll), commonly known as IFK Göteborg, IFK (especially locally) or Blåvitt, is a Swedish professional Football team, football club based in Gothenburg. Founded in 1904, it is the only club in the Nordic countries that has won one of the main UEFA competitions, having won the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Cup in both 1981–82 UEFA Cup, 1982 and 1986–87 UEFA Cup, 1987. Swedish football champions () is a title held by the winners of the highest Sweden, Swedish Association football, football league played each year, Allsvenskan. Malmö FF are the holders of the record of most titles with 24 Swedish championships, the most recent of which was won in 2024 Allsvenskan, 2024. The title has been contested since 1896 in various competition formats. The first Swedish Champions, Örgryte IS, were declared in 1896 when the club won the cup tournament Svenska Mästerskapet. This happened before there existed any Swedish national association, which was created in 1904. The winners of Svenska Mästerskapet between 1896 and 1904 have retroactively been declared holders of the title by the Swedish Football Association (SvFF). Malmö Fotbollförening (), commonly known simply as Malmö FF or MFF, is a Swedish professional football club based in Malmö, Scania. They compete in the Allsvenskan, the top division of Swedish football, and play home matches at the Eleda Stadion. IFK Norrköping
Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Norrköping, more commonly known as IFK Norrköping or simply Norrköping, is a Swedish professional association football, football club based in Norrköping. The club is affiliated to Östergötlands Fotbollförbund and play their home games at Nya Parken, PlatinumCars Arena. The club colours, reflected in their crest and kit, are white and blue. Karl Tommy Andreas Johansson (born 10 March 1982), also known as Ante G, is a Swedish former footballer who last played as a centre back and midfielder for Halmstads BK. Club career Halmstads BK Johansson was born in Getinge (Halland) in the southwest of Sweden. He started to play football with five years at local side Getinge IF, but moved at the age of 15 to Halmstads BK. When he arrived at Halmstads BK there was another player in the club with the name Andreas Johansson, to separate the players they were each given a nickname based upon where they have come from, Andreas Johansson (born 1982) was called "Ante G" (Getinge), while the other Andreas Johansson was nicknamed "Ante V" (Vallås). 2024 Allsvenskan
The 2024 Allsvenskan was the 100th season since its establishment in 1924 of Sweden's top-level football league, Allsvenskan. The season began on 30 March 2024 and ended on 10 November 2024 (not including play-off matches). Malmö FF successfully defended their Swedish championship title with their fourth such title in five years by defeating rivals IFK Göteborg 2–1 at Stadion on 28 October 2024. Teams The league consisted of sixteen teams; the top fourteen sides from the previous season, and two teams promoted from the 2023 Superettan. Malmö FF entered the season as defending champions. Swedish Football
Association football is the most popular sport in Sweden, with over 240,000 licensed players (approximately 56,000 women and 184,000 men) with another 240,000 youth players. There are around 3,200 active clubs fielding over 8,500 teams, which are playing on the 7,900 pitches available in the country. 1924–25 Allsvenskan
The 1924–25 Allsvenskan, part of the 1924–25 Swedish football season, was the inaugural season of Sweden's new first-tier football league, replacing Svenska Serien, which had been the name of the top tier since 1910. The first match was played on 3 August 1924 and the last match was played on 7 June 1925. GAIS won the league ahead of runners-up IFK Göteborg, while Västerås IK and Hammarby IF were relegated. Superettan (; ) is an association football league and the second highest league in the Swedish football league system, league system of Swedish football, Swedish men's football. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Allsvenskan and Division 1 (Swedish football), Division 1. Seasons run from April to October, with teams playing 30 matches each, totalling 240 matches in the season. The league was created in 2000. The second tier of Swedish football had previously consisted of a varying number of regionalized leagues operating under the Swedish football Division 2, Division 2 (1924–1986) and Swedish football Division 1, Division 1 (1987–1999) names. Sven Jonasson
Sven Jonasson (9 July 1909 – 17 September 1984) was a Swedish Association football, football Striker (association football), striker and Manager (association football), manager. Career He played for Sweden at the 1936 Summer Olympics. He was born in Borås and died in Varberg. He played for IF Elfsborg and the Sweden men's national football team, for whom he appeared in the 1934 FIFA World Cup, 1934 and 1938 FIFA World Cup, 1938 World Cups. He scored two goals in 1934 and one in 1938. Jonasson holds the record for most goals (252 goals) and most consecutive games (344 games, 1927–1941) in Allsvenskan (top level of Swedish football). In 1936 he is mentioned in a Danish source for playing as a "false 9" when playing against a team using a WM-formation. Bob Houghton
Robert Douglas Houghton (born 30 October 1947) is an English football manager and former player. His career has spanned over 30 years and 10 countries. He is most famous for taking Swedish club Malmö FF to the 1979 European Cup final, where they lost to Nottingham Forest. Career Early career During his brief playing career, Houghton was a midfielder for Fulham (1966–69) and Brighton & Hove Albion (1969–70). Houghton was one of the youngest coaches ever to manage in English senior football, being appointed player-manager of Hastings United in the Southern League at only 23. During that period, he was a star pupil of coaching guru Allen Wade, who was the technical director of the Football Association between 1963 and 83.
