All Souls Church (Plainfield, New Jersey)
All Souls Church, also known as the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield, is located at 724 Park Avenue in the city of Plainfield in Union County, New Jersey, United States. Built in 1892, the historic stone church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 11, 2009, for its significance in architecture and religion. With It is now the home of the Plainfield Performing Arts Center (PPAC). The church was designed in 1892 by the architect and magician Oscar Schutte Teale and features Romanesque and Late Gothic Revival architecture. Oscar Schutte Teale
Oscar Schutte Teale (September 9, 1847 - April 8, 1934) was an American architect, magician and writer. Biography Teale was born in New York City. He worked as an architect by trade and was interested in magic. He was the fourth President of the Society of American Magicians. He worked as a private secretary for magician Harry Houdini. He wrote a series of articles on magic and debunking spiritualism in the ''Sphinx'' magazine in 1925. In July 1925 it was alleged that Houdini and Teale visited the offices of Houdina Radio Control and damaged most of the furniture by smashing them against the floor and walls. Houdini had accused the company of using his name unlawfully. A summons for disorderly conduct was issued against Houdini but the charges were dropped because George Young the manager failed to appear in court. Presbyterian Church at Bound Brook is a historic church at 409 Mountain Avenue in Bound Brook, Somerset County, New Jersey. The congregation was founded in the 18th century and is one of the oldest in New Jersey. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 28, 2007 for its significance in ecclesiastical architecture from 1896 to 1922. History The Reverend Israel Read was the first pastor to be called to minister to the congregation, serving between 1750 and 1793. Several temporary or "supply pastors" served the congregation before Read. The earliest recorded grave in the Old Presbyterian Graveyard at Bound Brook was dated 1744.
