Alfred Stourton, 23rd Baron Mowbray
Alfred Joseph Stourton, 20th Baron Stourton, 24th Baron Segrave, 23rd Baron Mowbray (28 February 1829 – 18 April 1893) was the son of the nineteenth Baron Stourton and Mary Lucy Clifford, daughter of the 6th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh and his wife Eleanor Mary Arundell. By virtue of being descended from a co-heiress of the baronies of Mowbray and Segrave, Alfred had these baronies called out of abeyance in 1878. He married Mary Margaret Corbally in 1865. She was the only child of the Irish politician Matthew Corbally MP of Corbalton Hall, County Meath and the Hon. Matilda Margaret Preston, daughter of the 12th Viscount Gormanston. Baron Mowbray
Baron Mowbray is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created by Hereditary peer#Writs of summons, writ for Roger de Mowbray, 1st Baron Mowbray, Roger de Mowbray in 1283. The title was united with the Barony of Segrave in 1368, when John Mowbray, 1st Earl of Nottingham and 5th Baron Mowbray, succeeded to that title. His successor was named Duke of Norfolk. With the childless death of Anne Mowbray, 8th Countess of Norfolk, in c.1481, the Barony went into abeyance between the Howard and Berkeley families, and both styled themselves Baron Mowbray and Seagrave.George E. Baron Stourton
Baron Stourton is a title in the Peerage of England, It was created by patent in 1448 for John Stourton. In 1878, the ancient barony of Mowbray was called out of abeyance in favour of the twentieth Baron Stourton. About two weeks later, the barony of Segrave was also called out of abeyance in his favour. Thereafter, the three baronies remained united. The formal title is Baron Mowbray, Segrave and Stourton. The family seat, until 1717, was Stourhead. The motto of the family is "''Loyal je serai durant ma vie''" ( French: I will be loyal throughout my life). William Stourton, 18th Baron Stourton
William Stourton, 18th Baron Stourton (1776–1846) was a Roman Catholic English peer. Baron Segrave
Baron Segrave (Seagrave) is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created by writ in 1283 for Nicholas de Segrave, and the title is drawn from a village in Leicestershire now spelled Seagrave. The 6th Baron Segrave had previously succeeded to the title of Baron Mowbray, and thereafter, the two baronies have remained united, apart from a period of about a hundred years. For several generations they were subsidiary titles of the Dukes of Norfolk, and in 1777, they both went into abeyance with the death of the 9th Duke of Norfolk. The second creation, by writ was for Nicholas de Segrave of Barton Segrave in the County of Northampton in 1295, becoming extinct on the death of his daughter Maud in 1335. In 1831, a new Barony of Segrave was granted to Colonel William Berkeley, later created first Earl FitzHardinge, but this creation became extinct when he died without an heir in 1857. Edward Howard, 9th Duke of Norfolk (5 June 1686 – 20 September 1777) was an English peer and politician who was Earl Marshal from 1732 to 1777. Origins He was the third of the five sons of Lord Thomas Howard (d.1689), of Worksop (younger brother of Henry Howard, 7th Duke of Norfolk (d.1701), both sons of Henry Howard, 6th Duke of Norfolk (d.1684)) by his wife Mary Elizabeth Savile (d.1732). An elder brother Henry Howard (1684-1720) was Roman Catholic Bishop-elect before his death. His younger brothers were Richard Howard (1687-1722) who died in Rome, where he was a Canon of St. Peter Basilica and Philip Howard (1688-1750).
