Alfred Josef Nikolaus Guntram, II Prince of Windisch-Grätz (28 March 1819 – 28 April 1876) was a Feldmarschall-Lieutenant in the Austrian Imperial army and a major landowner. Early life Alfred II was born on 28 March 1819 in Vienna, into the House of Windisch-Graetz, one of the most prominent Austrian noble families. He was the eldest son of Alfred I, Prince of Windisch-Grätz, Field Marshal in the Imperial Austrian Army, and his wife, Princess Maria Eleonore of Schwarzenberg (1796–1848). Tachov (; ) is a town in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 14,000 inhabitants. It lies on the Mže River. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected as an urban monument zone. The House of Windisch-Graetz, also spelled Windischgrätz, is an ancient Austrian aristocratic family, descending from Windischgrätz in Lower Styria (present-day Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia). The noble dynasty serving the House of Habsburg achieved the rank of ''Freiherren'' in 1551, of Imperial Counts in 1682 and of Princes of the Holy Roman Empire in 1804. The House of Lobkowicz (''Lobkovicové'' in modern Czech, sg. ''z Lobkovic''; ''Lobkowitz'' in German) is an important Bohemian noble family that dates back to the 14th century and is one of the oldest noble families of the region.
