Alfredo Armas Alfonzo
Alfredo Armas Alfonzo (6 August 1921 in Clarines, Anzoátegui, Venezuela, – 9 November 1990 in Caracas, Venezuela) was a Venezuelan writer, critic, editor and historian, well known throughout Latin America. He was a master of the modern fable, a precursor of what soon would be called magical realism. Alfonzo grew up in the Llanos of interior Venezuela, Clarines, Puerto Píritu and Cumaná, and later attended the first classes at the new journalism school of the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. He worked for the Postal Service in Barcelona, Venezuela and petroleum companies in new towns established in eastern Venezuela, and worked as the eastern correspondent for the Caracas newspaper El Nacional. He founded the literary magazine, Revista Literaria Jagüey and organized and presided over the first conference of the Venezuelan Journalists Association. Alfonzo J. Giordano Jr. (February 7, 1937 – November 21, 2013) was a senior ranking officer in the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD), having achieved the rank of Inspector and was part of the homicide division, before his retirement in 1982. In 1986, he was convicted of accepting $57,000 in bribes. Giordano admitted receiving more than $45,000 in bribes in 1979, and more than $12,000 in early 1980 when he was commander of Philadelphia's East Division. The payoffs were from various operators of illegal lotteries and from sports betting operations that thrived in the blue-collar neighborhoods. Alfonzo John "Sturzy" Sturzenegger (August 22, 1888 – April 8, 1949), sometimes also referred to as Jack Sturzenegger, was an American college football and college baseball player and coach. He played football and baseball at the University of Nebraska. Sturzenegger later served as an assistant football coach at the University of Michigan (1920–1923), University of Southern California (1924), and the University of California, Los Angeles (1925–1948). He was also the head coach of the UCLA Bruins baseball team from 1927 to 1931, in 1933, and again from 1943 to 1945. Alfonso Ratliff (born February 18, 1956) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1980 to 1989, holding the WBC and ''The Ring'' cruiserweight titles in 1985. He was later coaching at the Harvey Boxing Club in Harvey IL.
