Alf Sjöberg
Sven Erik Alf Sjöberg (21 June 1903 – 17 April 1980) was a Sweden, Swedish theatre director, theatre and film director. He won the Palme d'Or, Grand Prix du Festival at the Cannes Film Festival twice: in 1946 for ''Torment (1944 film), Torment'' () (part of an eleven-way tie), and in 1951 for his film ''Miss Julie (1951 film), Miss Julie'' () (an adaptation of August Strindberg's play which tied with Vittorio De Sica's ''Miracle in Milan''). Despite his success with those films, Sjöberg was foremost a stage director, perhaps the greatest at the Royal Dramatic Theatre (alongside first Olof Molander and later Ingmar Bergman). He was a First Director of Sweden's Royal Dramatic Theatre between 1930 and 1980; he staged there many remarkable and historic productions. Sjöberg was also a pioneer director of drama for early Swedish TV (his 1955 TV production of ''Hamlet'' is a national milestone). The Guldbagge for Best Director is a Sweden, Swedish film award presented annually by the Swedish Film Institute (SFI) as part of the Guldbagge Awards (Swedish: "Guldbaggen") to Film director, directors working in the Swedish film, motion picture industry. 1951 Cannes Film Festival
The 4th Cannes Film Festival took place from 3 to 20 April 1951 after a one hiatus due to financial reasons. French author André Maurois served as jury president for the main competition. The Grand Prize of the Festival, then the festival highest prize, was jointly awarded to '' Miracle in Milan'' by Vittorio De Sica and '' Miss Julie'' by Alf Sjöberg. 1946 Cannes Film Festival
The 1st annual Cannes Film Festival was held from 20 September to 5 October 1946. Twenty-one countries presented their films at the "First Cannes International Film Festival", which took place at the former Casino of Cannes. Only one year after the end of World War II, most of the films were about the war. There arose several technical issues, such as the tarpauline cover blowing away in a storm on the day before the winners were to be announced, the reels of Alfred Hitchcock’s '' Notorious'' shown in reverse order, and Miguel M. Delgado’s ''The Three Musketeers'' projected upside-down.
