Alexis Matías
Alexis Matias (born July 21, 1974) is a volleyball player from Puerto Rico, who was a member of the Puerto Rico men's national volleyball team, Men's National Team that ended up in sixth place at the 2007 FIVB Men's World Cup in Japan. In the same year the allrounder won the silver medal at the 2007 Men's NORCECA Volleyball Championship, NORCECA Championship in Anaheim. He won with his team the Bronze medal at the 2010 Men's Pan-American Volleyball Cup, 2010 Pan-American Cup. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the program at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The 2007 FIVB Men's World Cup was held from 18 November to 2 December 2007 in Japan. The tournament was the first step in the qualification process for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. The top three teams qualified for the Olympics, and joined China as they had already secured a berth as the host country. The NORCECA Men's Volleyball Championship is the official competition for senior men's national volleyball teams of North America, Central America and the Caribbean, organized by the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation ( NORCECA). The Puerto Rico men's national volleyball team represents Puerto Rico in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches.
