Alexander Morrison (politician)
Alexander Morrison (January 15, 1851 – January 24, 1930) was a Canadian farmer and politician. Born in Kemptville, Canada West, the son of William Morrison and Elizabeth Morrow, Morrison attended public school and then became a farmer in Homewood, Manitoba. He was Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Dufferin for six years before being elected to the House of Commons of Canada for Macdonald in a 1912 by-election. After the election was declared void in 1913, he was re-elected in the resulting by-election. A Conservative, he did not run for re-election in 1917. He died in 1930 in Carman, Manitoba Carman is a small agricultural town of about 3,000 people in the Pembina Valley Region of southern Manitoba, Canada. Alexander Morrison (headmaster)
Alexander Morrison (3 February 1829 – 31 May 1903) was a Scottish-born educator who was the headmaster of the Scotch College (Melbourne) for 47 years. Early life and education Morrison first taught in Scottish institutions in Moray, Scotland, and later at the Elgin Academy, King's College, and the University of Aberdeen. He began teaching at Elgin Academy three years after graduating, later becoming rector of St John's Grammar School, Hamilton for three years. During this period, enrolment at the school doubled from 194 to 397. In 1855, Morrison married Christina Fraser. The following year, after the resignation of the inaugural headmaster, Robert Lawson, Morrison accepted the position of headmaster at Scotch College. He emigrated aboard the ''Essex'' with his wife, son, and younger brother Robert (who later became vice-principal at Scotch College from 1869 to 1904). Alexander Morrison (botanist)
Alexander Morrison (15 March 1849 – 7 December 1913) was a Scottish people, Scottish botanist and Western Australia's first Government Botanist in the Bureau of Agriculture. After emigrating to Australia in 1877, he proceeded to make a significant contribution to the study of the native flora, chiefly in Victoria and Western Australia. Morrison was born in Wester Dalmeny, Edinburgh, Scotland, the 8th of 10 children to Thomas Morrison (1809–1867) and Ann Peggie (1815–1867). He began a medical degree at Edinburgh, but suffered from ill health, prompting him to break his studies and visit Australia. He spent two years in Melbourne before returning to Edinburgh to complete his degree. It was thought that he then undertook post-graduate studies at Glasgow, Würzburg and Vienna; however, there is no evidence he was ever at Glasgow, and the Medical Directory implies that he was educated at Edinburgh alone. Pearson Canadian International Peacekeeping Training Centre (more commonly the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre, or simply the Pearson Centre) was an independent, not-for-profit organization with its office based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. ''Alex in Wonderland'' is a 1970 American comedy-drama film directed by Paul Mazursky, written with his partner Larry Tucker, starring Donald Sutherland and Ellen Burstyn. Sutherland plays Alex Morrison, a director agonizing over the choice of follow-up project after the success of his first feature film. The situation is similar to the one Mazursky found himself in following the success of ''Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice'' (1969) and he casts himself in a role as a new-style Hollywood producer. His daughter Meg Mazursky appears as Amy, one of Morrison's daughters. Noted teacher of improvisational theater Viola Spolin plays Morrison's mother. The film also features cameo appearances by Federico Fellini and Jeanne Moreau, and seems to be inspired by their work. In particular, Fellini's ''8½'' (1963), about a film director who's artistically stuck, is referenced.
