Alexander Kiprotich
Alexander Toroitich Kiprotich (born 10 October 1994) is a Kenyan javelin thrower. He won the gold medal at the 2013 African Junior Championships, finished seventh at the 2014 African Championships, fourth at the 2015 African Games, seventh at the 2015 Military World Games, won the bronze medal at the 2016 African Championships, finished fifth at the 2018 African Championships and eleventh at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He also competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games without reaching the final. The javelin throw is a track and field event where the javelin, a spear about in length, is thrown as far as possible. The javelin thrower gains momentum by running within a predetermined area. Javelin throwing is an event of both the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon. History The javelin throw was added to the Ancient Olympic Games as part of the pentathlon in 708 BC. It included two events, one for distance and the other for accuracy in hitting a target. The javelin was thrown with the aid of a thong (''Amentum, ankyle'' in Greek) that was wound around the middle of the shaft.
