Alex Smith (footballer, Born 1939)
Alex Smith MBE (born 25 December 1939) is a Scottish former football player and manager. His major achievements over close to five decades as a manager include winning the Scottish Cup in 1987 with St Mirren and 1990 with Aberdeen, where he also won the Scottish League Cup in 1989. He also won league titles with Stirling Albion and Clyde. He managed the Scotland under-18, under-21 and under-23 teams. He had a role in the development of many prominent players, and the 2005 book on Scottish football, ''The Final Whistle?'' was described as "the nearest thing the Scottish game has to a father figure". Biography Smith was born in Cowie, a mining village close to Stirling, and played in the same youth team as Billy Bremner - Gowanhill United. He was best man at Bremner's wedding in 1961. Cowie (Scottish Gaelic: ''Collaidh'', meaning wooded place) is a village in the Stirling council area of Scotland. Historically part of Stirlingshire, it lies on the minor B9124 road approximately southeast of Stirling and about north of the A9 road. Ian Porterfield
John Ian Porterfield (11 February 1946 – 11 September 2007) was a Scottish professional footballer, and an experienced football coach who worked at both club and international level for almost 30 years. At the time of his death, he was the coach of the Armenia national football team. As a player, Porterfield scored the only goal of the 1973 FA Cup Final as Sunderland memorably overcame the odds to beat Leeds United. He was the first manager to be sacked in the FA Premier League era, when he was fired by Chelsea. He had earlier succeeded Alex Ferguson as manager of Aberdeen in 1986. Jocky Scott
John Alexander Scott (born 14 January 1948) is a Scottish football coach and former player. During his playing career he played for Dundee, Aberdeen, Seattle Sounders and Scotland. An extensive management career followed with spells at Aberdeen, Dundee (three separate spells), Arbroath, Dunfermline Athletic, Notts County, Raith Rovers and Stirling Albion. He also had coaching jobs at other various clubs in both Scotland and England. Club career Scott played club football for Dundee and Aberdeen, winning the Scottish League Cup with both clubs. He memorably scored a hat-trick when Aberdeen beat Rangers 5–1 in the competition's semi-final in October 1976. He was capped twice for the Scotland national team in 1971. Billy Bremner
William John Bremner (9 December 1942 – 7 December 1997) was a Scottish professional Association football, footballer who played for Leeds United F.C., Leeds United, Hull City A.F.C., Hull City, and the Scotland national football team, Scotland national team. He also managed Doncaster Rovers F.C., Doncaster Rovers (twice) and Leeds United. Regarded as one of football's great midfielders, Bremner combined precision passing skills with tenacious tackling and physical stamina.
