Alessandro Hämmerle
Alessandro Hämmerle (born 30 July 1993) is a Swiss-born Austrian Snowboarding, snowboarder, and Olympic gold medalist in the snowboard cross. Hämmerle competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for Austria. In the Snowboarding at the 2014 Winter Olympics – Men's snowboard cross, snowboard cross, he finished 2nd in his 1/8 round race, advancing to the quarter-finals, where he placed 5th, not advancing, and ending up 17th overall. As of September 2014, his best showing at the FIS Snowboard World Championships, World Championships was 6th, in the FIS Snowboarding World Championships 2013, 2013 snowboard cross. Hämmerle made his FIS Snowboard World Cup, World Cup debut in December 2010. As of September 2014, he had one World Cup victory, coming at Sochi in 2012–13 FIS Snowboard World Cup, 2012–13. FIS Snowboard World Cup
The FIS Snowboard World Cup is an annual snowboarding competition, arranged by the International Ski Federation (FIS) since 1994. Since its inauguration, different disciplines have been added and removed, along with categories used to group them. Currently disciplines contested in the World Cup are parallel giant slalom and parallel slalom (grouped into the "parallel" category); the halfpipe, big air, and slopestyle (grouped into the "AFU" category); and the discipline-category of snowboard cross. Most of these disciplines have been contested on and off throughout the years. The only discipline contested in every season of the World Cup is the halfpipe (and from 1996–97 season onward the snowboard cross). There was an "overall" classification until the 2009–10 season.
