Aleksandër Xhuvani University is an institution of higher education located in Elbasan, Albania. It is divided into five faculties: Natural Sciences, Humanities, Economics, Educational Sciences and Medical and Technical Sciences. The current rector of the university is Prof. Dr. Skënder Topi. History Aleksandër Xhuvani University is a successor institution of the "Elbasan Normal School" (), a teacher training institution that was founded on December 1, 1909. "Shkolla Normale" was the first school of vocational education in the Albanian language. Elbasan
Elbasan ( , ; sq-definite, Elbasani, ) is the fourth most populous city of Albania and seat of Elbasan County and Elbasan Municipality. It lies to the north of the river Shkumbin between the Skanderbeg Mountains and the Myzeqe Plain in central Albania. The University of Tirana (, abbreviated UT) is a public university located at the central borough of Tirana 10 in Tirana, Albania. It was established as the State University of Tirana (SUT) in 1957 through merging of five existing institutes of higher education. The main building was planned by Italian architect, Gherardo Bosio at the beginning of 1940. It is situated at the Mother Teresa Square, south of the city center of Tirana. Aleksandër Xhuvani
Aleksandër Xhuvani (14 March 1880 – 22 November 1961) was an Albanian philologist and educator. Xhuvani spent much of his career working for the improvement of Albanian schools; he also advocated the standardization of the Albanian language in the years following Albania's independence. Among his writings are grammars in Albanian, as well as a dictionary of the language. Xhuvani also served as a politician, sitting in both the Constituent Assembly of the Albanian Kingdom and as a member of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania. In the latter he served as vice-president of the Presidium towards the end of his life. Elbasan's Aleksandër Xhuvani University is named after him. Life Aleksandër Xhuvani was born on March 14, 1880, in Elbasan, then Ottoman Empire.
