Pedro Alejandro Escovedo (born January 10, 1951) is an American rock musician, songwriter, and singer, who has been recording and touring since the late 1970s. His primary instrument is the guitar. He has played in various rock genres, including punk rock, roots rock and alternative country, and is most closely associated with the music scene in Music of Austin, Texas, Austin, Texas but also San Francisco and New York. He comes from a family of musicians. True Believers (band)
The True Believers were a rock band from Austin, Texas active from 1982 to 1987. Founded by brothers Alejandro and Javier Escovedo, True Believers were rooted in hard rock with touches of country and the rebellious energy of punk rock. They found critical praise and toured with many leading bands of the 1980s but never broke out of cult status to achieve mainstream success due in part to their hard-to-classify style. History The True Believers were founded in 1982 by singer-guitarist Alejandro Escovedo, formerly of the Nuns, and his brother Javier Escovedo, formerly of the Zeros. The other two initial members of the band were drummer Kevin Foley (who was formerly in the Nuns with Alejandro) and bassist Denny DeGorio. The Zeros (American Band)
The Zeros are an American punk rock band, formed in 1976 in Chula Vista, California. The band was originally composed of Javier Escovedo (younger brother of Alejandro Escovedo, older brother of Mario Escovedo of The Dragons) on vocals/guitar and Robert Lopez (later known as El Vez) on guitar, who were both attending Chula Vista High School; Hector Penalosa, (bass), and Baba Chenelle, (drums), who attended Sweetwater High School. The Dragons (band)
The Dragons were a rock band based in San Diego, California, that released seven albums between 1991 and 2005. The band was notably fronted by singer/guitarist Mario Escovedo, whose musical family also includes Alejandro Escovedo, Pete Escovedo, Javier Escovedo ( The Zeros), Coke Escovedo, Paris Escovedo (the son of Coke Escovedo) and Sheila E. Other members of The Dragons included Ken Horne (lead guitar), Steve Rodriguez (bass guitar) and Jarrod Lucas (drums). The band played a combination of glam, garage and punk rock, similar to New York Dolls and Hanoi Rocks. Sheila Cecilia Escovedo (born December 12, 1957), known under the stage name Sheila E., is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Regarded as one of the greatest musicians of her generation; she is known for skills as a multi-instrumentalist, often preferring to play drums or percussion. She is sometimes referred to as the "Queen of Percussion". Her music incorporated a wide variety of styles, including R&B, funk, jazz, pop, synth-pop, latin pop, and salsa. Born and raised in Oakland, California, Sheila began her music career as a percussionist for the George Duke Band in 1976. She departed from the band in 1980. Peter Michael Escovedo Jr. (born July 13, 1935 in Pittsburg, California) is an American percussionist. Career With his two brothers, he formed the Escovedo Bros Latin Jazz Sextet, before Carlos Santana hired Pete and Coke Escovedo for his group, Santana. Pete led the 14–24 piece Latin big band Azteca. He owned a nightclub, Mr. E's, in Berkeley, California in the late 1990s.
