Alberto Ulloa
Alberto Ulloa (1 January 1950 – 1 October 2011) was a painter, sculptor, and poet from Altamira, Dominican Republic. He was a student of the distinguished Latin American painter Jaime Colson, who also mentored Mario Carreño, the Cuban-Chilean master. Ulloa also studied drawing with illustrator and painter Domingo Liz. Career Ulloa participated in more than a hundred solo and collective exhibits around the world and the subject of four books that illustrate his contributions. Art historian and author, Cándido Gerón of Alberto Ulloa, Visionario Fantástico, reveals Ulloa's gift: “As colors correspond to human emotions, Ulloa can achieve an optical illusion. Color in his work is impregnated with diaphanous sensitivity. His chromatic atmospheres sometimes make us think that we are before some sort of dream, due to the inscrutable sensuality of his tones”. Altamira, Dominican Republic
Altamira is a town in the Puerto Plata Province of the Dominican Republic. The town's name is the subject of at least two different origin traditions. One asserts that when Christopher Columbus first arrived in the area, he took note of the height of the mountains and exclaimed: "Look at the heights." Another reports that the name is based on the geographical resemblance of the region to Spain's Cave of Altamira, Altamira Caves. On October 29, 1889, President Ulises Heureaux declared the town a municipality. To this day, October 29 is celebrated in Altamira with municipal festivities. Jaime Colson
Jaime Antonio Gumercindo González Colson (13 January 190120 November 1975) was a Dominican modernist painter, writer, and playwright born in Tubagua, Puerto Plata in 1901. He is remembered as one of the most important Dominican artists of the 20th century, and as one of the leading figures of the modernist movement in 20th century Dominican art, along with Yoryi Morel, Dario Suro, and Celeste Woss y Gil. Mario Carreño Morales
Mario Carreño y Morales, better known as Mario Carreño (May 24, 1913 – December 20, 1999) was a Cuban-Chilean painter. Biography Morales was born on May 24, 1913 in Havana, Cuba. He studied painting at the Academia de San Alejandro, Havana from 1925 until 1926. In 1934, he studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Madrid, Spain. In 1937 he was a student at the Ecole des Arts appliqués, Paris, France and that same year, at the Académie Julian, Paris, France. Among his teachers was Jaime Colson. Circa 1935, he painted a mural in Havana with David Alfaro Siqueiros, which was later destroyed. Pulmonary Edema
Pulmonary edema (British English: oedema), also known as pulmonary congestion, is excessive fluid accumulation in the tissue or air spaces (usually alveoli) of the lungs. This leads to impaired gas exchange, most often leading to shortness of breath ( dyspnea) which can progress to hypoxemia and respiratory failure. Pulmonary edema has multiple causes and is traditionally classified as cardiogenic (caused by the heart) or noncardiogenic (all other types not caused by the heart). Various laboratory tests ( CBC, troponin, BNP, etc.) and imaging studies (chest x-ray, CT scan, ultrasound) are often used to diagnose and classify the cause of pulmonary edema. Treatment is focused on three aspects: * improving respiratory function, * treating the underlying cause, and * preventing further damage and allow full recovery to the lung.
