Alain Pérez
Alain Pérez (born April 20, 1977 in Trinidad, Cuba), is a Cuban bassist. Alain Perez was born in Manaca-Iznaga, a town in the Valle de los Ingenios in Sancti Spiritus very close to Trinidad. His father was the composer Gradelio Perez. Alain Pérez is a Cuban musician, producer, and composer known for his contributions to the world of Latin and Afro-Cuban music. With a career spanning over three decades, Pérez has released numerous albums that have been critically acclaimed and have garnered him a global fan base. Career His professional career began in large part thanks to Chucho Valdes who recognized his talent and took him to work in Irakere. There he worked from 1994 as a singer and keyboard player, until he emigrated to Spain in 2001. He has worked as a sideman for Paco De Lucia and Jerry Gonzalez and many others. Valle De Los Ingenios
Valle de los Ingenios, also named Valley de los Ingenios or Valley of the Sugar Mills, is a series of three interconnected valleys about outside of Trinidad, Cuba. The three valleys, San Luis, Santa Rosa, and Meyer, were a centre for sugar production from the late 18th century until the late 19th century. At the peak of the industry in Cuba there were over fifty sugar cane mills in operation in the three valleys, with over 30,000 slaves working in the mills and on the sugar cane plantations that surrounded them. In 1988, Valle de los Ingenios and neighbouring Trinidad were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, because of its testimony to the early sugar trade industry. Irakere
Irakere (faux- Yoruba for "forest") is a Cuban band founded by pianist Chucho Valdés (son of Bebo Valdés) in 1973. They won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Recording in 1980 with their album ''Irakere''. Irakere was innovative in Afro-Cuban jazz and Cuban popular dance music. The group used a wide array of percussion instruments, such as batá, abakuá and arará drums, chequerés, erikundis, maracas, claves, cencerros, bongó, tumbadoras (congas), and güiro. History "Jazz bands" began forming in Cuba as early as the 1920s. These bands often included Cuban popular music, popular North American jazz, and show tunes in their repertoires. Despite this musical versatility, the movement of blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz was not strong in Cuba for decades. Francisco Sánchez Gómez (; 21 December 194725 February 2014), known as Paco de Lucía (), was a Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer, and record producer. A leading proponent of the new flamenco style, he was one of the first flamenco guitarists to branch into classical and jazz. Jerry González
Jerry González (June 5, 1949 – October 1, 2018) was an American bandleader, trumpeter and percussionist of Puerto Ricans, Puerto Rican descent. Together with his brother, bassist Andy González (musician), Andy González, Jerry Gonzalez played an important role in the development of Latin Jazz during the late 20th century. During the 1970s, both brothers played alongside Eddie Palmieri and in Manny Oquendo's Conjunto Libre, and from 1980 to 2018 they directed The Fort Apache Band. From 2000 to 2018, Jerry González resided in Madrid, where he fronted Los Piratas del Flamenco and El Comando de la Clave. In October 2018, he died of a heart attack after a fire in his home in Madrid.
