Al Strachan
Alan Strachan is a Canadian sports author and journalist. A former sports columnist for ''The Globe and Mail'', ''Montreal Gazette'', and ''Toronto Sun'', he won the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award in 1993 and is a member of the media section of the Hockey Hall of Fame. He is also a former panelist on ''Hockey Night in Canada'' and analyst on The Score. Career Strachan joined the Montreal Gazette as a journalist in 1973 while also working as a radio show host in Montreal. While working for the Gazette, Strachan was promoted to sports editor. He subsequently hired Glenn Cole in 1977 to fill his former position. In 1980, Strachan joined ''The Globe and Mail'' where he was the 1993 recipient of the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award. He was likewise named a lifetime member of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. A year later, in 1994, Strachan was hired by the Toronto Sun. The ''Toronto Sun'' is an English-language tabloid format, tabloid newspaper published daily in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The newspaper is one of several ''Sun'' tabloids published by Postmedia Network. The newspaper's offices are located at Postmedia Place in downtown Toronto. Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award
The Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award is an accolade presented annually to a print newspaper columnist or reporter in recognition of their achievements covering the game of ice hockey. The award is "to recognize distinguished members of the newspaper profession whose words have brought honor to journalism and to hockey." The Hockey Hall of Fame established the accolade in 1984 and named it after the Montreal-based Canadian newspaper sports journalist Elmer Ferguson. Early in the year, the recipient is chosen by a committee of members from the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. The Hockey Hall of Fame () is a museum and hall of fame located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Donald Stewart Cherry (born February 5, 1934) is a Canadian former ice hockey player, coach, and television commentator. He played one game in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Boston Bruins. After concluding a playing career in the American Hockey League, he coached the Bruins for five seasons leading the team to four division titles and two appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals.
