''Al-Monitor'' is a news website launched in 2012 by the Arab-American entrepreneur Jamal Daniel. Based in Washington, D.C., ''Al-Monitor'' provides reporting and analysis from and about the Middle East. ''Al-Monitor'' is the recipient of the International Press Institute's 2014 Free Media Pioneer Award. History and organization ''Al-Monitor'' was launched on 13 February 2012 by Jamal Daniel. Ben Caspit
Ben Caspit (; born October 18, 1960) is an Israeli journalist. He serves as a political commentator and a senior reporter for the newspaper " Maariv HaShavua" and ''Al-Monitor''. He presents daily programs on radio station 103fm in the morning program alongside Yinon Magal and in the evening program alongside Aryeh Eldad, and also presents the Hevrat HaHadashot "meet the press" alongside Amit Segal on channel 12. Biography Caspit was born in Tel Aviv, and grew up in Holon. He enlisted in the Israeli Defense forces in 1979, to the Armored Corps and served as a Merkava tank commander in the 7th Armored Brigade until 1982. He graduated from Tel Aviv University with a bachelor's degree in law. Afterwards, he worked as a private investigator and engaged in economic and insurance investigations. Amberin Zaman is a Turkish journalist and a chief correspondent for Al-Monitor based in Paris covers major stories on the MENA . Having started as a journalist in the early 1990s in Turkey, Zaman contributes to various newspapers throughout the world. Her reporting focuses on geopolitical trends, conflicts, diplomacy and human rights. She studied political science at Franklin College in Lugano Switzerland, speaks fluent English, French, Turkish and Bengali.
