Al-Masirah
Al-Masirah ( ''al-Masirah'', which means "The Journey") is a Yemeni TV channel owned by the Houthi movement which was launched in 2012. It is headquartered in Beirut, Lebanon. History The President of the board of Al-Masirah is Mohammed Abdulsalam who is also Houthis official spokesman and their chief negotiator. Al-Masirah was founded by the Houthi movement in January 2012 in Beirut, Lebanon and is located next to Hezbollah’s Al Manar TV with backup studios at Hezbollah headquarters. The channel launched its first test broadcast on 23 March 2012, on the Nilesat satellite. Channel frequency during Saudi-led coalition on Yemen On 10 May 2015, Al-Masirah, along with other anti-Saudi channels, were closed on Nile Sat & Euro Sat several times due to Saudi pressure on the satellite companies, which made Al-Masirah broadcast its signal instead on the Russian satellite Express AM44. The Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, is a Zaydism, Zaydi Shia Islamism, Shia Islamist political and military organization that emerged from Yemen in the 1990s. List of journalists killed in Yemen includes nine journalists listed as confirmed since 1992 by Committee to Protect Journalists. Three media workers are also confirmed killed, as well as two more journalists still under investigation by the press freedom organization. While covering the struggles between Houthi militias and Saudi Arabian forces there have been multiple journalists who have lost their lives in 2015. Television In Yemen
Local television is the most significant media platform in Yemen. Given the low literacy rate in the country, television is the main source of news for Yemenis. There are six free-to-air channels currently headquartered in Yemen, of which four are state-owned. The government runs four terrestrial television channels: Yemen TV (the flagship national TV station), Aden TV, Sheba TV (aimed at youth and students) and Al Iman TV (covers religious issues). The Yemeni satellite channel is aimed at Yemeni expatriates abroad, whilst the opposition channel, Suhail TV, is currently headquartered in Riyadh. Due to the high price of satellite dishes relative to the local levels of income, terrestrial channels have the highest penetration, and there is minimal penetration of pay-TV. Ekspress-AM4
Ekspress-AM4 was a Russian communications satellite placed into the wrong orbit from a faulty Briz-M rocket stage. This satellite was to be part of the Ekspress series of geostationary communications satellites owned by Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC). Proposals were made to reposition the satellite to provide broadband services to Antarctica, but ultimately the decision was made to de-orbit the satellite. On 28 March 2012, the satellite splashed into the Pacific Ocean. Satellite description The total mass of the Ekspress-AM4 satellite was , and the satellite had 63 transponders. Egyptian Satellites Co SAE or Nilesat (; or , ) is a company and the name of a series of Egyptian communications satellites. It was established in 1996 by the government of Egypt with the purpose of operating Egyptian satellites and their associated mission control center and ground stations. The company is now listed on the Egyptian Exchange, though remains controlled by the government (c.75%) through the National Media Authority (40%), and other state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
