Aktogay () is a town located in the Sarysu District, Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan. It is part of Zhanaaryk rural district (КАТО code — 316037200). Demographics According to the 2009 Kazakhstan census, the town has a population of 781 people. In 1999 the town had a population of 806. Karatau Range
The Karatau or Qaratau ( kk, Қаратау жотасы, Qarataw jotasy) is a mountain range located in southern Kazakhstan. The name Karatau means ''Black Mountain'' in the Kazakh language. The mountains have deposits of phosphorite, lead and zinc. Geography The range extends for about in a roughly NW/SE direction just north of the Syrdaria River. The Muyunkum Desert lies to the north of the range. The Karatau is the westernmost prolongation of the Tian Shan. The summits of the mountains are smooth and the slopes are cut by snow-fed rivers. Shabakty
The Shabakty ( kk, Шабақты; russian: Шабакты) is a river in southern Kazakhstan. It has a length of and a drainage basin of . Google Earth The river flows across Sarysu District of the Zhambyl Region. There are two inhabited places by the riverbank, Saudakent near the mouth and Aktogay in the upper course. The water of the river is used by local households and for irrigating crops. Course The Shabakty river has its origin in a spring of the northern slopes of the Karatau Range. It heads roughly northwestwards down a canyon with steep sides. The bottom of the river channel is pebbly and the water is fresh and clean. The Kyrshabakty ( kk, Қыршабақты) is a river in southern Kazakhstan.
