Akani Simbine (born 21 September 1993) is a South African Sprint (running), sprinter specialising in the 100 metres event. He was fifth at the Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics in the Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 metres, men's 100 metres and was the 100 metres List of South African records in athletics, African record holder with a time of 9.84 seconds set in July 2021 until broken by Ferdinand Omanyala in September 2021. Kempton Park, Gauteng
Kempton Park is a city in the East Rand region of Gauteng province, South Africa. It is part of the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. It is situated south of Thembisa, one of the largest townships in South Africa, which is also part of Ekurhuleni. South Africa's busiest airport, O. R. The event served as a qualifying event for the 2025 World Athletics Championships, with the top 14 teams securing qualification to the World Championships. The African Championships in Athletics is a continental athletics event organized by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), the continental association for the sport in Africa. Since its inaugural edition in 1979 it was at first organised intermittently with nine editions held in fourteen years until 1993. Following the tenth edition in 1996 it has been organised biennially on even years, and is always held in the same year as the Summer Olympics. The 21st edition was held in Asaba, Nigeria in August 2018. The event featured a men's marathon from 1979 to 1990. Sport of athletics, Athletics was one of the core sports that was held at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. As a founding sport, athletics has appeared consistently since its introduction at the 1911 Inter-Empire Games; the recognized precursor to the Commonwealth Games. The programme featured an expanded event set for para-athletes with a total of six men's and six women's events, re presenting doubling of the number para-events at the previous games.
