Ailsa Mainman
Ailsa Jean Mainman is a British archaeologist and pottery specialist. Career Mainman completed her PhD at the University of Sheffield and is now a research associate at the University of York. She is a former assistant director of York Archaeological Trust. She was elected as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London on 12 January 1989. Personal life In 1991 Mainman married fellow archaeologist Richard Hall (1949–2011). Archaeology
Archaeology or archeology is the study of human activity through the recovery and analysis of material culture. York Archaeological Trust
The York Archaeological Trust for Excavation and Research Limited (YAT) is an educational charity, established in 1972 in the city of York, England, and trading under the York Archaeology brand since 2023. The charity presents archaeology to the public through visitor attractions and events, and its commercial arm carries out archaeological investigations, fieldwork, excavation and research in York and throughout Britain and beyond. History YAT was established in 1972, became a registered charity in 1979, and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in the same year. Peter Addyman, an archaeologist and later a professor at the universities of Bradford and York, was instrumental in its creation and was the body's first director, holding that position until his retirement in 2002. The Society of Antiquaries of London (SAL) is a learned society of historians and archaeologists in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1707, received its royal charter in 1751 and is a Charitable organization, registered charity. It is based at Burlington House in Piccadilly, a building owned by the Government of the United Kingdom, UK government. The modern membership of around 3,300 fellows mostly consists of archaeologists and historians, who can use the post-nominal letters FSA after their names. Richard Hall (archaeologist)
Richard Andrew Hall (17 May 1949 – 13 September 2011) was an English archaeologist who specialized in Viking activity in the British Isles. Early life and education Richard Andrew Hall was born in Ilford on 17 May 1949. He moved to Belfast at a young age, where he was educated at the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. Hall received his first degree in archaeology from Queen's University Belfast in 1971 with a dissertation on Viking activity in Ireland. His dissertation was supervised by Peter Addyman. In 1985, Hall received a PhD from the University of Southampton with a dissertation on towns of the English Danelaw. Career Hall joined the York Archaeological Trust in 1974 as excavations supervisor. He would eventually hold the position of director of archaeology and deputy director of the trust.
