Dick Boer (born 31 August 1957) is a Dutch businessman. From 2011 to 2018, he was the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the supermarket chain Ahold Delhaize. Early life Boer was born on 31 August 1957. Career Boer joined Ahold in 1998, rising to CEO on 1 March 2011, succeeding John Rishton. Education Muller earned a master's degree in business economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Career Muller started his career with KLM Cargo, from 1988 to 1997. It was founded in 1887, and has been part of Ahold Delhaize since 2016. History The chain was founded on 27 May 1887, when Albert Heijn bought a grocery store from his father Jan Heijn in Oostzaan. Gerrit Jan Heijn
Gerrit Jan Heijn (14 February 1931, Zaandam – 9 September 1987) was a Dutch businessman, who was a top manager of Ahold until his murder in 1987. His grandfather was Albert Heijn, who founded the family business, and his older brother was also named Albert Heijn, who was the founder of Ahold. His son, Ronald Jan Heijn, played for the Dutch national field hockey team. Death On 9 September 1987, he was kidnapped near his villa in Bloemendaal, Netherlands by Ferdi Elsas. Although Elsas murdered Heijn within a few hours of his kidnapping, he pretended that Heijn was still alive for a long time and asked for ransom. He sent the Heijn family Gerrit Jan's glasses and severed little finger. Elsas was caught when he started spending banknotes of the ransom he received, of which the numbers had been recorded. Albert Heijn (15 October 1865 – 13 November 1945) was a Dutch entrepreneur who was the original founder of Albert Heijn, which is now the largest food retailer in the Netherlands. Biography Albert Heijn was born in Oostzaan on the 15th of October 1865, the son of Jan Heijn and Antje de Ridder. His parents ran a successful store in the town. On 27 May 1887, he married Neeltje de Ridder. On the same day, he took over his parents' store. The supermarket chain founded by his grandson Albert Jr. still carries the ''Albert Heijn'' name. The first Albert Heijn store still exists as a Museum at Zaanse Schans near Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Heijn handed over the management of the company in 1920, to his sons Jan Heijn and Gerrit Heijn, and his son-in-law Johan Hille.
