Agustín Casasola
Agustín Víctor Casasola (28 July 1874 – 30 March 1938) was a Mexican photographer and partial founder of the Mexican Association of Press Photographers. Casasola began his career as a typographer for the newspaper ''El Imparcial'', eventually moving to reporter then on to photographer in the early 1900s. He became a photographer in 1894. By 1911 Casasola was credited with founding the first Mexican press agency, Agencia Fotografica Mexicana. Casasola was later thanked by the interim president in 1911, Francisco León de la Barra, for having "inaugurated a new phase of freedom in the press photography." By the end of 1912 the agency had expanded and changed its name to Agencia Mexicana de Informacion Fotografica. The agency brought on more photographers and began purchasing pictures from foreign agencies and amateurs, then redistributing those photographs to newspapers. Francisco León De La Barra
Francisco León de la Barra y Quijano (June 16, 1863 – September 23, 1939) was a Mexican political figure and diplomat who served as 36th President of Mexico from May 25 to November 6, 1911. He was known to conservatives as "The White President" or the "Pure President." Early career León de la Barra was the son of a Chilean immigrant to Mexico. He obtained a degree in law in Querétaro before entering politics as a federal deputy in 1891. In 1892, he attended the Ibero-American Judicial Conference held in Madrid on the occasion of the four hundredth anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America. Casasola Archive
The Casasola Archive is a photographic archive of Mexican history and culture, the foundational collection of the photo archive, Fototeca Nacional, administered by the Mexican government. The archive contains important historical photos from the regime of Porfirio Diaz and the Mexican Revolution. The main collection was compiled by Agustín Víctor Casasola, a photo journalist in Mexico City. The archive contains his own work as well as that of some 500 other photographers, with both positive prints and negative films, in various formats and on various photographic media. Since 1976, it is preserved in the climate-controlled rooms in a former colonial-era Franciscan convent, now the National Photo Library, of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. Pachuca (; ote, Nju̱nthe), formally known as Pachuca de Soto, is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of Hidalgo. It is located in the south-central part of the state.
