Agliè (Piedmontese: ''Ajé'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about north of Turin. Agliè borders the following municipalities: San Martino Canavese, Torre Canavese, Bairo, Vialfrè, Cuceglio, San Giorgio Canavese, and Ozegna. Main sights Castello Ducale Agliè's main attraction is its ''Castello Ducale'', one of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Dating from the 12th century, it was originally a possession of the counts of San Martino. In the 17th century, it was turned into a rich residence by count Filippo d'Agliè, but was ravaged during the French invasion of 1706. In 1765 it was acquired by Charles Emmanuel III of Savoy and sold to his son Benedetto of Savoy who had it radically renewed ten years later, under design by Ignazio Birago di Bòrgaro. Agliè Castle
Agliè Castle (; ) is a castle located in Agliè, Piedmont, Italy. The castle has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 as part of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy. History In the 16th century, the fortress still retained a medieval appearance, featuring a central keep, a courtyard surrounded by rural buildings and a garden, all enclosed by a sturdy defensive wall and a moat. In 1667, Count Filippo of San Martino, who had served as a counselor to the Christine of France, commissioned the royal architect Amedeo di Castellamonte to redesign the garden-facing façade, the complex of the chapel of San Massimo, the two galleries, and the courtyard. Upon his death, the project was interrupted, but the castle already had two courtyards (one internal and one facing the village of Agliè) and an eastern façade with the two towers transformed into small pavilions. Prince Benedetto, Duke of Chablais (Benedetto Maria Maurizio; 21 June 1741 – 4 January 1808) was an Italian nobleman and military leader. He was the youngest child of King Charles Emmanuel III of Sardinia. He married his half-niece Maria Anna of Savoy; they had no children. Benedetto was the owner of the '' Palazzo Chiablese'' in Turin. Biography Chablais was born at the Palace of Venaria. The Residences of the Royal House of Savoy are a group of buildings in Turin and the Metropolitan City of Turin, in Piedmont, northern Italy. Guido Gozzano
Guido Gustavo Gozzano (; 19 December 1883 – 9 August 1916) was an Italian poet and writer. Biography He was born in Turin, the son of Fausto Gozzano, an engineer, and of Diodata Mautino, the daughter of Senator Mautino, patriot and supporter of Giuseppe Mazzini and Massimo D'Azeglio. He spent his life in Turin and in Agliè (in the Canavese area), where his family owned several buildings and a large estate: Villa Il Meleto. Canavese ( French: ''Canavais''; Piedmontese: ''Canavèis'') is a subalpine geographical and historical area of North-West Italy which lies today within the Metropolitan City of Turin in Piedmont. Its main town is Ivrea and it is famous for its castles. Location To the North it borders on the Aosta Valley and to the East on the provinces of Biella and Vercelli. To the South and West the borders have varied over time but might be taken as being the rivers Stura di Lanzo and Po. The valley of the river Orco and the area around Corio fall within the Canavese. Cuceglio (''Cusele'' in Piedmontese language) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italy, Italian region Piedmont, located about northeast of Turin. Monuments and places of interest In Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, the central square, there is the first Italian monument erected in honor of the king Umberto I of Italy and immediately behind an oak planted in honor of the queen.
