Adriana Samuel
Adriana Samuel Ramos (born 12 April 1966) is a Brazilian volleyball and beach volleyball player who won the silver medal in the inaugural women's beach volleyball tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics, partnering with Mônica Rodrigues. Samuel begun her career with indoor volleyball, even becoming a part of Brazil women's national volleyball team. She competed at the 1984 FIVB Volleyball Women's U20 World Championship, the 1985 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup, and the 1986 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship. However, she left the court in 1992, moving into the beach by forming a partnership with Mônica Rodrigues. Samuel also represented her native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where she claimed the bronze medal, teaming up with Sandra Pires (who had defeated Samuel in Atlanta). Alexandre Ramos Samuel (born 20 March 1970), also known as Tande, is a Brazilian former volleyball player. He began playing volleyball for the Botafogo team when he was 12 years old. Tande won a gold medal with the Brazilian national volleyball team at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. In 1995, he finished in fifth place with the Brazilian team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Tande won a silver medal with Brazil at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana. Jacqueline Louise Cruz Silva (born 13 February 1962) is a Brazilian retired female volleyball player. Silva won the gold medal in the inaugural women's beach volleyball tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, partnering with Sandra Pires. Silva was first drafted by the Brazilian women's national volleyball team at the age of 14. She was part of the team that took Brazil to its first Olympics in Moscow in 1980, and then helped the team compete in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. She was known for her aggressive temperament and concern for gender equality, which led the Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol to cut her from the national team in 1985. The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour (known between 2003 and 2012 as the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour for sponsorship reasons) was the worldwide professional beach volleyball tour for both men and women organized by the ' (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, FIVB), the sport's global governing body. The World Tour was introduced 1989 for men and in 1992 for women being held yearly since then until 2021 when it was replaced by the new Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. Karolyn Kirby (born June 30, 1961) is an American female retired beach volleyball player. She won the bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships in Los Angeles, California, partnering with Nancy Reno. The pair also won the 1992 Olympic tournament, at which time beach volleyball was a demonstration sport. In her career in beach volleyball, Kirby won 67 tournaments and $680,000 in prizes. 29 of her tournament wins were with partner Liz Masakayan. Kirby won numerous awards as a beach volleyball player. She was WPVA Most Valuable Player in 1990, 1991, 1993, and 1994. She was WPVA Best Offensive Player in 1990 and WPVA Best Hitter in 1992.
