Adriana Adam ( Ailincăi) (born 11 April 1999) is a Romanian rowing (sport), rower. She is an Olympic Games, Olympic champion and won the gold medal in the Rowing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's eight, women's eight at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Adam is also a two-time World Rowing Championships, world champion in Eight (rowing), eight and four-time European Rowing Championships, European champion, including titles in eight and coxless pair. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. Rowing is functionally similar to paddling, but rowing requires oars to be mechanically attached to the boat, and the rower drives the oar like a lever, exerting force in the ''same'' direction as the boat's travel; while paddles are completely hand-held and have no attachment to the boat, and are driven like a cantilever, exerting force ''opposite'' to the intended direction of the boat. Coxless Pair
A coxless pair, abbreviated as a 2- and also known as a straight pair, is a racing shell used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for two rowers, who propel the boat with sweep oars. The crew consists of a pair of rowers, each having one oar, one on the stroke side (rower's right hand side) and one on the bow side (rower's lefthand side). As the name suggests, there is no coxswain (cox) on such a boat, and the two rowers co-ordinate steering and the proper timing of oar strokes between themselves or by means of a steering installation which is operated by foot from one of the rowers.
