Acheron River, Marlborough
The Acheron River is a river in the South Island of New Zealand, in Marlborough and flows into the Waiau Toa / Clarence River. It flows southwest and then east for a total of , joining the Waiau Toa / Clarence at the southern end of the Inland Kaikōura mountains. The Alma and Severn Rivers flow into the Acheron before it joins the Waiau Toa / Clarence. Molesworth Station
Molesworth Station is a High country (New Zealand), high country cattle station. It is located behind the Kaikōura Ranges, Inland Kaikōura Mountain range in the South Island's Marlborough District. It is New Zealand's largest farm, at over and supports the country's biggest herd of cattle. It also hosts government science programs, such as research into bovine tuberculosis and related research into common brushtail possum, possums. Waiau Toa / Clarence River
The Clarence River (; officially Waiau Toa / Clarence River) is a major river which flows through the Kaikōura Ranges in the northeast of New Zealand's South Island. At roughly long, it is the longest river in Canterbury and the eighth longest in New Zealand. For its first , the river runs in a generally southeastern direction. It then turns northeast, running down a long straight valley between the Inland and Seaward Kaikōura Ranges. At the end of the Seaward Kaikōuras, the river meanders through undulating hill country before draining into the Pacific Ocean near the town of Clarence. A large part of the river is within the boundaries of Molesworth Station. The river and its tributaries cut through rock formed on the seafloor of the Pacific during the late Cretaceous through to the middle Eocene, during which period the majority of New Zealand was at points almost entirely submerged. Guide River
The Guide River is a river in the Marlborough Region of New Zealand. It starts near Barefell Pass on the eastern side of the Rachel Range and flows south-east to join the Acheron River, which joins the Waiau Toa / Clarence River and eventually drains into the Pacific Ocean. The river was named by Sir Frederick Weld and his station manager in 1850, because it guided them from the Barefell Pass to the Acheron River (which they misidentified as the Clarence River). Name The earliest reference to the name Yarra River was found in a field book from 1866-70. Kaikōura Ranges
The Kaikōura Ranges are two parallel ranges of mountains located in the Canterbury Region in the northeast of the South Island of New Zealand. The two ranges are visible from a great distance, including from the southern coast of the North Island. Description Formed along New Zealand's Marlborough Fault System, they can be seen as the northernmost extension of the Southern Alps in the South Island. Named the ''Looker-on mountains,'' by Captain James Cook, they take their name from the town of Kaikōura at the southern extreme of the more eastern range, the Seaward Kaikōuras.
