Acapulco de Juárez (), commonly called Acapulco ( , ; ), is a city and Port of Acapulco, major seaport in the Political divisions of Mexico, state of Guerrero on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, south of Mexico City. Located on a deep, semicircular bay, Acapulco has been a port since the early colonial period of Mexico's history. Guerrero, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Guerrero, is one of the 32 states that compose the administrative divisions of Mexico, 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. Fort Of San Diego
The Fort of San Diego (), formerly also known as the Fort of San Carlos () is a star fort in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. It was built by the Spanish Empire, and it was one of the most important Spanish fortifications along the Pacific coast. The fort was first built in the 17th century, but was completely rebuilt in the 18th century. Today, it is an important landmark in Acapulco, and it is open to the public as the Acapulco Historic Museum (). History The Fort of San Diego was built by the Spanish Empire to protect Acapulco from attacks by pirates, since the city was an important trading port, being the point of departure for the Manila galleons. Our Lady Of Solitude Cathedral, Acapulco
The Our Lady of Solitude Cathedral (also Acapulco Cathedral; ) is the main Catholic church of the city of Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico, located in the center of the city in front of the Álvarez Square. It has been the episcopal seat of the Archdiocese of Acapulco since 1958. It combines architectural styles that were amalgamated during and after construction; details of Neocolonial architecture and Moorish and Byzantine style are present, the latter in the dome and the towers. The interior of the church is decorated with gold tiles and mosaics. The space occupied by the building has been used for public worship since the founding of the parish in 1555. Acapulco de Juárez is one of the 81 municipalities of Guerrero, in southwestern Mexico, along Acapulco Bay on the Pacific coast, being both the most populous and most densely populated municipality in Guerrero. The municipal seat lies at Acapulco. Forty percent of the municipality is mountainous terrain; another forty percent is semi-flat; and the other twenty percent is flat. Guerrero is a state in Southwest Mexico that is divided into 85 municipalities. Puerto Marqués
Puerto Marqués is a bay located on the Pacific Coast in the Mexican State of Guerrero. Approximately 10 kilometers (6.5 miles) south of the city of Acapulco, it is the second closest Pacific port to Mexico City, approximately three hundred kilometres southwest, just north of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. It has two main beaches for tourists and locals, Puerto Marqués Beach and Majahua Beach. The oldest known pottery found in Mesoamerica, a culture area within the borders of Central America, was found at Puerto Marqués. "Pox" pottery discovered there has been dated to as early as 2400 BC, roughly 3500 years ago. La Quebrada (Acapulco)
La Quebrada (Spanish for "gulch" or "ravine") is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Acapulco, Mexico. Divers entertain tourists by jumping off either of two ledges on the cliff, one that is 40 feet (12 m) high and the top one which is 80 feet (24 m) high. The divers must calculate the right moment to jump to catch an incoming wave and avoid serious injury or death. Occasionally jumpers dive with a torch. Most of the divers come from the family of Quebrada divers. Although cliff diving at La Quebrada had taken place for many years, it was not until 1934 that the La Quebrada Cliff Divers was formed.
