Acaenitinae
Acaenitinae is a subfamily of the parasitoid wasp family (biology), family Ichneumonidae. Female Acaenitinae have a large triangular projecting genital plate. Distribution It is distributed on all continents except Antarctica, although only one specimen (from the genus ''Arotes'') has ever been discovered in South America. Taxonomy and phylogeny The subfamily has traditionally been divided into two tribes (Acaenitini and Coleocentrini) and comprises 28 genus, genera. The validity of tribes remains debated. Wahl and Gauld considered Coleocentrini paraphyletic and favored abandoning a tribal arrangement in 1998. In contrast, Klopfstein ''et al.'' and Bennett ''et al.'' found Acaenitini to be monophyletic in 2019. However, they also found that ''Coleocentrus'', the type genus of Coleocentrini, was not recovered as sister to Acaenitini. Ichneumonidae
The Ichneumonidae, also known as ichneumon wasps, ichneumonid wasps, ichneumonids, or Darwin wasps, are a family of parasitoid wasps of the insect order Hymenoptera. They are one of the most diverse groups within the Hymenoptera with roughly 25,000 species described . However, this likely represents less than a quarter of their true richness as reliable estimates are lacking, along with much of the most basic knowledge about their ecology, distribution, and evolution.Quicke, D. L. J. (2015). ''The braconid and ichneumonid parasitoid wasps: biology, systematics, evolution and ecology''. Chichester: John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. It is estimated that there are more species in this family than there are species of birds and mammals combined. Ichneumonid wasps, with very few exceptions, attack the immature stages of holometabolous insects and spiders, eventually killing their hosts. They play an important role as regulators of insect populations, both in natural and semi-natural systems, ...

Henry Keith Townes
Henry Keith Townes, Jr. (20 January 1913 – 2 May 1990) was an American entomologist who specialized in the Hymenoptera with a special focus on the Ichneumonidae. Townes was born in Greenville, South Carolina and went to study at the Furman College, receiving bachelor's degrees in 1933 which included a BS in biology and BA in language. He then went to Cornell University where he obtained a doctorate in 1937 under J.C. Bradley studying Ichneumonidae. He then taught zoology at Syracuse University followed by entomology at Cornell. In 1940 he received a fellowship to work at the Academy of Natural Sciences which resulted in a catalogue of Nearctic Ichneumonidae. He then worked at the USDA in Washington and was appointed a specialist on Ichneumonidae following R. A. Cushman's retirement. In 1949 he moved to become a faculty at the North Carolina State University where he worked till 1956. His wife Marjorie Chapman also assisted him in his Hymenoptera Hymenoptera is a large orde ...
