Abrahan Alfonso Gavilán
Abrahan Alfonso Gavilán (born 23 February 1995) is a Cuban male volleyball player. He was part of the Cuba men's national volleyball team at the 2014 FIVB World Championship in Poland. He played for La Habana. Gavilán was born on February 23, 1995, in Havana. He was part of the national team for five years, ending in 2016. In 2018, he resumed his career in Turkey for four years. Afterwards, he went to play in Italy in the A2 series where he was champion of the A2 Italian Cup and champion of the A2 Supercup. He now plays in Kuwait. He did not play in Rio Olympics in 2016 for being one of the six players of the Cuban national volleyball team that were remanded into custody suspected of committing aggravated rape in July 2016 in Tampere Tampere is a city in Finland and the regional capital of Pirkanmaa. The Cuba men's national volleyball team () represents Cuba in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Federación Cubana De Voleibol. Cuba in the 1976 Summer Olympics won their first bronze medal. In FIVB competitions, the national team won one gold each at World Cup, World Grand Champions Cup, World League and Challenger Cup. 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship
The 2014 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship was held in Poland from 30 August to 21 September 2014. The tournament featured 24 teams to determine the world champions in men's volleyball. In addition to the host nation Poland, 23 teams qualified for the tournament through continental and regional competitions. The matches took place in seven venues across seven Polish cities, with the final being played at Spodek, Katowice. The tournament was won by the hosts Poland, who beat Brazil (who had won the previous three titles) in the final. Poland became the third team in the history of the competition to be crowned as champions in their own country, joining the Soviet Union (1952 and 1962) and Czechoslovakia (1966). 563,263 fans watched the matches during the 18-day event, smashing the previous records in the competition.
