Regional County Municipality
The term regional county municipality or RCM (, , MRC) is used in Quebec, Canada to refer to one of 87 county-like political entities. In some older English translations they were called county regional municipality. Regional county municipalities are a supralocal type of regional municipality, and act as the local municipality in Unorganized area#Quebec, unorganized territories within their borders. The system of regional county municipalities was introduced beginning in 1979 to replace the List of former counties of Quebec, historic counties of Quebec. In most cases, the territory of an RCM corresponds to that of a Census geographic units of Canada, census division; however, there are a few exceptions. Dupuy, Quebec
Dupuy () is a municipality in northwestern Quebec, Canada, in the Abitibi-Ouest Regional County Municipality. It covers 123.48 km2 and had a population of 940 as of the 2021 Canadian census. The municipality was incorporated on September 20, 1918, and known as Saint-Jacques-de-Dupuy until March 4, 1995. The name pays tribute to Abbé Jean-Baptiste Dupuy (1804-1879) in 1836, as a missionary at the Lake Abitibi post. Val-Saint-Gilles () is a municipality in northwestern Quebec, Canada, in the Abitibi-Ouest Regional County Municipality about north of La Sarre. It covers 109.39 km² and with a population of 169 in the 2021 Canadian census, it is the least populous incorporated municipality in the regional county. It lies at the northern edge of the Abitibi Clay Belt. The undulating land is dotted with swamps, a few small lakes, and sand and gravel deposits. Roquemaure () is a municipality (Quebec), municipality in northwestern Quebec, Canada in the Abitibi-Ouest Regional County Municipality, MRC d'Abitibi-Ouest. It covers 120.02 km2 and had a population of 409 as of the 2021 Canadian census. The municipality was incorporated on January 1, 1952. Rapide-Danseur () is a municipality in northwestern Quebec, Canada, in the Abitibi-Ouest Regional County Municipality. It covers 173.73 km2 and had a population of 380 as of the 2021 Canadian census. Palmarolle, Quebec
Palmarolle () is a municipality in northwestern Quebec, Canada, in the Abitibi-Ouest Regional County Municipality. It covers 117.87 km2 and had a population of 1,386 as of the Canada 2021 Census. It is considered to have the best agricultural land of the entire Abitibi region. History The area began to be colonized in 1911 when the township was surveyed. The completion of the National Transcontinental Railway at La Sarre and Macamic led to further waves of development with the arrival of new settlers in 1916, 1918, and 1929. Following the pattern of other places in the Abitibi, the settlement was named after a historic military figure, François-Charles Bertrand de Palmarole or Palmarolle (1714 ‑ 1760), lieutenant of the La Sarre Regiment and Knight of the Order of Saint Louis.
