Abilene High School (Abilene, Texas)
Abilene High School is a public high school located in Abilene, Texas. AHS is classified as a Division 5A school and is part of the Abilene Independent School District. Abilene High School is the name given to three different schools in the past 150 years. The first Abilene High was an old warehouse. Not long after that, the school was moved to what was the former Lincoln Middle School. In 1955, Abilene High was moved to its current location at N 6th and Mockingbird. Its main rival in sports is Cooper High School. The Abilene High Marching Band is accepted to be the oldest marching band in Texas. In 2011, the school was rated " Academically Acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. In addition to parts of Abilene, its attendance boundary includes Impact. Athletics Coached by P. E. Charles William Harrison (April 25, 1941 – December 30, 2023) was an American professional baseball player. He was a first baseman in Major League Baseball who played between through for the Houston Astros (1965–1967) and Kansas City Royals (1969, 1971). Jack Graves Favor, also known as Cadillac Jack Favor, (November 30, 1911 – December 27, 1988) was an American rodeo performer. Biography Early life Favor was born on a ranch in Eula, Texas. He attended and graduated from Abilene High School. While at high school he won his first rodeo competition as a bronc rider in Cameron, Texas. Later life Favor served in the United States Navy from 1929 to 1932, returning to Texas after his discharge. He worked as a truck driver for a plumbing company in Abilene, Texas. Favor later settled in Fort Worth, Texas, before returning to the Navy in 1941. Favor continued to compete in rodeos, retiring in 1961 to live in Texarkana, Texas and work as a salesman.
