Abbey, Lincoln
Abbey is one of eleven electoral districts within the City of Lincoln Council. As of 2023, the Liberal Democrats hold all three seats in the ward having first taken a seat in the 2021 local elections being the first time a non- Labour Party candidate had won a seat in the ward since 1979. The ward is split between two Lincolnshire County Council divisions, St Giles in the north and Park in the south who respectively have elected a Conservative and Labour county councillor. Geography The ward encompasses a large part of the east of Lincoln, stretching from Danesgate near the centre of town, up part of Lindum Hill, along Monks, Greetwell and Wragby Road, ending at the Carlton Centre bordering West Lindsey. HM Prison Lincoln is a Prison security categories in the United Kingdom, Category B men's prison, located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. A category B prison which allocates convicted prisoners within its catchment area. History Lincoln opened as a local prison in 1872 to hold Detention of suspects, remand and convicted prisoners and replacing the prison at Lincoln Castle. The original 1869–72 structures designed by Frederick Peck are now listed buildings and are notable examples of Victorian architecture, High Victorian gothic design. The prison accommodation has been altered and extended at various times in the 20th century. Between 1900 and 1961 a total of 18 judicial executions took place at the prison. West Lindsey is a Non-metropolitan district, local government district in Lincolnshire, England. Its council is based in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, Gainsborough, the district's largest town. The district also includes the towns of Caistor and Market Rasen, along with numerous villages and surrounding rural areas. The east of the district includes part of the Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The 2023 City of Lincoln Council election took place on 4 May 2023 to elect members of City of Lincoln Council in Lincolnshire, England.
