AMAA Who’s Who In The Martial Arts Hall Of Fame
The Africa Movie Academy Awards is an annual entertainment award ceremony presented to recognize excellence among African and non-African professionals, who have contributed to the African film industry. The award was founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and is run by the Africa Film Academy. It is regarded as one of Africa's most notable film events, and have been sometimes referenced as the "African Oscars". History The first Africa Movie Academy Awards was held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, on 30 May 2005. All other subsequent African Academy Awards before 2012 were held at the same venue, except for the 2008 AMAA Awards which was moved to Abuja, FCT for security reasons. In 2012, the awards ceremony was held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos in Lagos State. The 9th and 10th edition saw AMAA returning to Yenagoa, while the 2015 ceremony was held outside Nigeria for the first time. Berni Goldblat
Berni Goldblat is a Swiss-Zimbabwean filmmaker and critic. He has been a juror at the Africa Movie Academy Awards since 2007. Career Born in 1970 in Stockholm, Sweden, Goldblat has been doing video productions centered around West Africa since 1999. In 2000, he founded Cinomade, a Burkinabé association that aims to increase knowledge and appreciation of digital media to film-making. By 2006, he founded his own production company, Les films du Djabadjah in Burkina Faso. He was a jury at Imagé Santé International Film Festival in 2008. In 2017, he was made head of jury for the 13th edition of the AMAA awards. Amaka Igwe
Amaka Igwe (2 January 1963 – 28 April 2014) was a Nigerian filmmaker and broadcasting executive. Igwe was the owner oTop Radio90.9 Lagos and Amaka Igwe Studios. She was recognized as one of the second-generation filmmakers who helped begin the video film era of Nigerian cinema. She remained a prominent figure in the industry until her death in 2014 resulting from an asthma attack. On 2 January 2020, Igwe was honoured on her 57th posthumous birthday with a Google Doodle. Early life and education Uzoamaka Audrey "Amaka" Igwe was born to Isaac and Patience Ene on 2 January 1963 in Port-Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, south-south Nigeria. Filippe Savadogo
Filippe Savadogo is a Burkinabe film critic and politician. Between 2007 and 2011, he was the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Communication for Burkina Faso. He has also served as ambassador of his country to many European countries including France. He is presently a permanent observer to the United Nations. Charles Burnett (; born April 13, 1944) is an American film director, film producer, writer, editor, actor, photographer, and cinematographer. Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) is a non-profit corporation in Los Angeles, California, United States, that states its goal is to promote "cultural understanding among peoples of African descent" through exhibiting art and film. It hosts a film festival and an arts festival in Los Angeles in February of each year. The ''Los Angeles Times'' in 2013 called the film festival "the largest black film festival" in the United States. Background The festival was founded in 1992 by actors Danny Glover, Ja'net Dubois, and executive director Ayuko Babu. Shaibu Husseini (born 4 December 1970) is a Nigerian journalist, performing artist, cultural administrator, PR and media expert and film curator. He holds a doctorate degree in mass communication from the University of Lagos and was educated at the Lagos State University School of Communication and at the University of Lagos, where he earned a BSc (first class) in mass communication and an MSc (distinction) respectively.
