81st Venice International Film Festival
The 81st annual Venice Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival was held from 28 August to 7 September 2024, at Venice Lido in Italy. French actress Isabelle Huppert served as Jury President for the main competition. Italian actress and model Sveva Alviti hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. The Golden Lion was awarded to ''The Room Next Door'' by Pedro Almodóvar. Australian filmmaker Peter Weir and American actress Sigourney Weaver received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the festival. The festival opened with ''Beetlejuice Beetlejuice'' by Tim Burton, and closed with ''The American Backyard'' by Pupi Avati. Lorenzo Mattotti
Lorenzo Mattotti (born 24 January 1954) is an Italian comics artist and illustrator. His illustrations have been published in magazines such as ''Cosmopolitan (magazine), Cosmopolitan'', ''Vogue (magazine), Vogue'', ''The New Yorker'', ''Le Monde'' and ''Vanity Fair (magazine), Vanity Fair''. In comics, Mattotti won an Eisner Awards, Eisner Award in 2003 for his ''Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde'' graphic novel. Biography Born in Brescia, he studied architecture when he was young, but did not finish the course. Instead he became a comics artist. Golden Lion For Lifetime Achievement
The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement () is an award given at the Venice Film Festival. It is awarded to directors, actors and other personalities from the world of cinema who have distinguished themselves in the art. Among the winners are Charlie Chaplin, Manoel de Oliveira, Stanley Kubrick, Alida Valli, Sophia Loren, Hayao Miyazaki, David Lynch and many other figures of international film. It joins the Golden Lion, the festival's highest prize, which is instead awarded to a film in competition. The prize was established in 1971. Previously, the equivalent prize was the ''Omaggio per il complesso dell'opera'', awarded in 1969 and 1970. Previously, such tributes were given in the form of retrospectives. Ali Asgari (; born 25 July 1982) is an Iranian film director, screenwriter and producer. Life and career Born in Tehran, after his 2007 graduation from the Islamic Azad University Asgari went to study cinema in Italy. After directing several shorts, in 2016 he directed a segment of the anthology film ''In the Same Garden''. Abderrahmane Sissako (; born 13 October 1961) is a Mauritanian-born Malian film director and producer. James Gray (born April 14, 1969) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter.
