Bill Quackenbush
Hubert George Quackenbush (March 2, 1922 – September 12, 1999), known as Bill Quackenbush, was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played for the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League. During his 14-year career, he was the first defenceman to win the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. He won the award after playing the entire 1948–49 season without recording a penalty. The penalty-less season was part of a total of 131 consecutive games he played without being assessed a penalty. Quackenbush, considered to be an elite offensive defenceman during his career, was named to the NHL All-Star team five times, played in eight NHL All-Star games and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1976. James Angus Gerald "Old Hardrock" Mortson (January 24, 1925 – August 8, 2015) was a Canadian ice hockey defenceman in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Black Hawks, and Detroit Red Wings, winning four Stanley Cups with Toronto. He also played in eight NHL All Star Games. Early career Mortson grew up in Northern Ontario. He joined the St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey Association Jr. league in 1943–44 and played two seasons for them. Alex Delvecchio
Alexander Peter "Fats" Delvecchio (born December 4, 1931) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, coach, and general manager who spent his entire National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Detroit Red Wings. In a playing career that lasted 24 seasons, from 1951 to 1973, Delvecchio played in 1,549 games, recording 1,281 points. At the time of his retirement, he was second in NHL history in games played, assists and points. He won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct three times, and helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup three times. Delvecchio having played 1,549 games with the Red Wings is one of three to spend their entire career with one franchise and play at least 1,500 games with that team (the other two, Steve Yzerman and Nicklas Lidström, also played for the Red Wings). Bill Gadsby
William Alexander Gadsby (August 8, 1927 – March 10, 2016) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who played for the Chicago Black Hawks, New York Rangers, and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League between 1946 and 1966. Playing career Gadsby began his outstanding hockey career in Calgary playing for several minor league teams including the Alberta Midget champions in 1942. He played two years for the Edmonton Junior Canadians before joining the Chicago Black Hawks in 1946. He was captain twice during his eight years with them. Gadsby contracted polio in 1952 but fought back without interrupting his hockey career, although he spent three weeks in the hospital. Bill Mosienko
William Mosienko (November 2, 1921 – July 9, 1994) was a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Chicago Black Hawks. He is best noted for recording the fastest hat trick in NHL history. In a 1952 game against the New York Rangers, Mosienko scored three goals in 21 seconds. In the NHL, Mosienko won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 1945 as the most gentlemanly player in the league, played in five All-Star Games and was twice named to the second All-Star team. He left the league in 1955 to help bring professional hockey to his hometown of Winnipeg. He helped create the Winnipeg Warriors of the Western Hockey League and was a three-time All-Star in his four years of play in the league. He won the league championship in 1956. Walter Edgar Hergesheimer (January 8, 1927 —September 27, 2014) was a Canadian ice hockey forward. Playing career In 1944 Hergsheimer lost the index and middle finger on his right hand due to an industrial accident. Hergesheimer started his National Hockey League career with the New York Rangers. He would also play with the Chicago Black Hawks. His career lasted from 1952 to 1959. His older brother was Phil Hergesheimer (1914–2004), also a professional hockey player. He died of congestive heart failure at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on September 27, 2014 at the age of 87. Metro Prystai
Dmytro "Metro" Prystai ( uk, Дмитро Пристай, November 7, 1927 – October 8, 2013) was a Canadian ice hockey forward. Prystai began his National Hockey League career with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1947. He also played for the Detroit Red Wings. He left the NHL following the 1958 season, playing part of one season in the minors before retiring. He won two Stanley Cups with Detroit in 1952, 1954, and made three All-Star Game appearances in his 12-year NHL career. After his hockey career Prystai operated an insurance company in Wynyard, Sask. Prystai was a widower with both spouses Evelyne and Mavis predeceasing him. He died on October 8, 2013 in a nursing home in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. He was 85. Gordie Howe
Gordon Howe (March 31, 1928 – June 10, 2016) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. From 1946 to 1980, he played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) and six seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA); his first 25 seasons were spent with the Detroit Red Wings. Nicknamed "Mr. Hockey", Howe is often considered the most complete player to ever play the game and one of the greatest of all time. Sid Smith (ice Hockey)
Sidney James Smith (July 11, 1925 – April 29, 2004) was a National Hockey League left winger who played with the Toronto Maple Leafs for 12 seasons. He was the Leafs team captain from 1955 to 1956. Playing career Born in Toronto, Ontario, and attended De La Salle College, Smith began his career in minor leagues in Toronto and later with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League. He attended Essex School and resided at 1 Burnfield Avenue in Seaton. Having played 45 games in two championship seasons for the Maple Leafs, he spent most of the 1948–49 season in the AHL with the Pittsburgh Hornets before he was called back to Toronto.
