Clan Gunn
Clan Gunn () is a Scottish Highlands, Highland Scottish clan associated with lands in northeastern Scotland, including Caithness, Sutherland and, arguably, the Orkney Isles. Clan Gunn is one of the oldest Scottish Clans, being descended from the Norse Earl of Orkney, Jarls of Orkney and the Picts, Pictish Mormaer of Caithness, Mormaers of Caithness. History Origins Traditional origins The traditional origin of the Clan Gunn is that the progenitor of the clan was one ''Gunni'' who came to Caithness at the end of the 12th century when his wife, Ragnhild, inherited the estates from her brother, Harald Maddadsson who was the Earl of Orkney. His wife descended from Rögnvald Kali Kolsson, St Ragnvald, who was the founder of the St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall, Orkney. ''Gunni'', whose name meant ''war'', was allegedly descended from Viking adventurers and his grandfather was ''Sweyn'' who was killed in a raid on Dublin in 1171. Smibert, however, states that the Gunns were of Gaels ...

Gunn Diode
A Gunn diode, also known as a transferred electron device (TED), is a form of diode, a two-terminal semiconductor electronic component, with negative differential resistance, used in high-frequency electronics. It is based on the "Gunn effect" discovered in 1962 by physicist J. B. Gunn. Its main uses are in electronic oscillators to generate microwaves, in applications such as radar speed guns, microwave relay data link transmitters, and automatic door openers. Its internal construction is unlike other diodes in that it consists only of N-doped semiconductor material, whereas most diodes consist of both P and N-doped regions. It, therefore, conducts in both directions and cannot rectify alternating current like other diodes, which is why some sources do not use the term ''diode'' but prefer TED. In the Gunn diode, three regions exist: two are heavily N-doped on each terminal, with a thin layer of lightly n-doped material between them. When a voltage is applied to the device, ...

Gunn (film)
''Gunn'' is a 1967 American neo noir mystery film directed by Blake Edwards, and starring Craig Stevens, based on the 1958-1961 television series ''Peter Gunn''. Stevens was the only regular cast member from the original series to appear in the film; the characters of Gunn's singing girlfriend Edie Hart, club owner "Mother", and police lieutenant Jacoby were all recast for the film. The movie was intended to be the first in a projected series of ''Peter Gunn'' feature films, but no sequels followed. Plot When a gangster named Scarlotti is murdered on his yacht, private eye Peter Gunn investigates because Scarlotti once saved the suave gumshoe's life. After Mother's nightclub is bombed, Gunn and his law enforcement buddy, Lieutenant Jacoby, begin to tighten the screws on ambitious hood, Fusco, who aspires to become the city's new kingpin. But eventually the investigation leads to a shock ending for the debonair P.I. Cast * Craig Stevens as Peter Gunn * Laura Devon as Edie Ha ...

65P/Gunn
65P/Gunn is a List of periodic comets, periodic comet in the Solar System orbiting the Sun every 6.41 years inside the main asteroid belt between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter. Observational history It was discovered on 11 October 1970 by Professor James E. Gunn (astronomer), James E. Gunn of Princeton University using the 122-cm Schmidt telescope at the Palomar Observatory. It had a low brightness of magnitude 16, which improves to 12 under favourable conditions. In 1972 Elizabeth Roemer managed to observe 65P/Gunn close to aphelion. On 4 February 1970 the comet passed from Ceres (dwarf planet), Ceres. In 1980 it was noticed that a 19th magnitude comet found in plates obtained by Palomar Observatory on 8 August 1954 was a previous apparition of 65/Gunn. The link was confirmed by Brian G. Marsden. Gunnr
Gunnr (alternatively ''Guðr'') is one of the named Valkyries in Norse mythology, specifically referenced in the ''Völuspá'' (st. 30/7; NK, p. 7), Helgakviða Hundingsbana II (st. 7/4; NK, p. 152), and the ''Prose Edda.'' Her name is an Old Norse term that translates to "battle". The Valkyries Gunnr, Rota, and the young norn Skuld were said to decide the outcome of battles, and, at its conclusion, would ride out to take the slain. Gunnr was also a feminine given name among Norsemen. The modern forms ''Gun'' and ''Gunn'' remain in use as a feminine given name in Scandinavia. The word is from Proto-Germanic '' *gunþiz'', a common element of Northern and Western Germanic names. It is often used as the second element in feminine names (as in Hildegund), and as the first element in masculine names (as in Gunther). The earliest attestation of the name is on the Rök Stone where it occurs as part of a kenning for wolf: :Þat sagum tvalfta, hvar hæstʀ se Gunnaʀ etu vettvangi a, k ...
