50th Rocket Army
The 50th Red Banner Rocket Army (Military Unit Number 55135) was an army of the Soviet, later Russian Strategic Rocket Forces. It was created in 1960. Its first commander was General Lieutenant Feodor Dobish ( :ru:Добыш, Фёдор Иванович). Its headquarters was located in Smolensk. The 7th Guards Missile Rezhitskaya Red Flag division (7 GRD) – is a (military unit 14245) of the 27th Guards Missile Army, Strategic Rocket Forces located in Ozyorny, Bologovsky District, Tver region, Russia. Abbreviated name - 7 RD History On 14 July 1943, on the basis of the 79th guards cannon artillery regiment in the Staraya Russa region, the 19th Separate guards cannon artillery brigade was formed. On 27 July 1944, for courage and heroism to the personnel in the battles for the liberation of the city of Rezekne, the brigade was commended by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and was awarded the honorary title "Rezhitskaya" During the Great Patriotic War, the brigade fought from Staraya Russa to Saldus ( Latvia). Plokštinė missile base ( lt, Plokštinės raketų bazė) was an underground base of the Soviet Union. It was built near Plokščiai village, north of Plungė, in the sparsely populated Plokštinė forest near Plateliai Lake, Samogitia, Lithuania. This was the first nuclear missile base of the Soviet Union built to house underground R-12 Dvina ( NATO reporting name: SS-4 Sandal) ballistic medium-range missiles. 29th Guards Rocket Division
The 29th Guards Rocket Division is an intercontinental ballistic missile division of the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces. The division was formerly part of the Soviet Strategic Rocket Forces and has been active since 1960. Originally based in Latvia and Lithuania, the division has been stationed at Irkutsk since 1986. Võru (; vro, Võro; german: Werro) is a town and a municipality in south-eastern Estonia. It is the capital of Võru County and the centre of Võru Parish. R-12 Dvina
The R-12 Dvina was a theatre ballistic missile developed and deployed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Its GRAU designation was 8K63 (8K63U or 8K63У in Cyrillic for silo-launched version), and it was given the NATO reporting name of SS-4 Sandal. The R-12 rocket provided the Soviet Union with the capability to attack targets at medium ranges with a megaton-class thermonuclear warhead and constituted the bulk of the Soviet offensive missile threat to Western Europe. Deployments of the R-12 missile in Cuba caused the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. A total of 2335 missiles were produced; all were destroyed in 1993 under the START II treaty. As well as the single-stage ballistic technology, the R-12 Dvina had a two-stage capability that allowed payloads to be placed into low Earth orbit.
