40 Bands 80 Minutes!
''40 Bands 80 Minutes!'' is a 2006 American rockumentary about the Los Angeles underground music scene in 2006 directed by Sean Carnage. In the style of ''Urgh! A Music War'', ''40 Bands 80 Minutes!'' is a series of punk and experimental musical performances and performance art pieces, with minimal narration. The film was conceived as a way to systematically document the music of the entire L.A. underground music scene. On March 6, 2020, ''40 Bands 80 Minutes!'' was reissued with remastered sound and picture. Development All of the performances in ''40 Bands 80 Minutes!'' were filmed on March 6, 2006, at all-ages performance space Il Corral in Hollywood, CA. The young performers were required to play for less than two minutes, with no re-takes. The results were captured with four digital video cameras and a professional sound crew. Sean Carnage
Sean Carnage, born Sean Carney, is an American director and producer living in Los Angeles. He is also a concert promoter, hosting "Sean Carnage Monday Nights" at Pehrspace in Echo Park, Carnage has also hosted his "Monday nights" in the past at Los Angeles venues The Smell and the il Corral. His feature-length video 40 Bands 80 Minutes! was released in 2006, and re-released in 2020. Early life and career Sean Carney was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He dropped out of Case Western Reserve University where he was a National Endowment for the Humanities of Art History to hang out at the Euclid Tavern and listen to underground rock groups like Craw and the Jesus Lizard. He'd played in bands, written about music, and booked shows at the funky DIY venue Speak in Tongues. He helmed local monthly music magazine U.S. Rocker for a year before it folded in late 1998. Wives (band)
Wives was an American hardcore punk/noise rock trio from Los Angeles consisting of guitarist Randy Randall, bassist/vocalist Dean Spunt, and drummer Jeremy Villalobos. In the three years the band were together, they released a self-titled 7-inch on Post Present Medium, as well as a split 7-inch with K.I.T on Post Present Medium. In September 2004 the band released their first full-length LP, ''Erect the Youth Problem'', on Cold Sweat Records. In June 2005, the band released a split 12-inch with Moving Units, also on Post Present Medium. In November 2005, following a European tour the band split; a friend, Roy, replaced Jeremy on drums finishing the last leg of the tour with them, playing their farewell show on November 20 at the Highbury Buffalo Bar, London, England. Mika Miko
Mika Miko was an American band formed in 2003 in Los Angeles, California. In 2004, they gained local popularity for their frenetic live performances. Featuring Victor Fandgore (Jennifer Clavin), Jet Blanca (Jenna Thornhill), Michelle Suarez, Jessica Clavin, and Jon Erik Edrosa, the original line up of the band made its first demo CD-R, its first 7" record, and toured the West Coast extensively before replacing their original drummer with Kate Hall and embarking on their first national tour in the summer of 2005. Also in 2005, they were featured on two compilations released by Los Angeles-based record labels, produced their first two self-released cassettes, and two members of the band appeared on the Hawnay Troof EP, ''Community''.
