The 31st Yukon Legislative Assembly convened in 2002, after the victory of the Yukon Party led by Dennis Fentie in the 2002 Yukon general election. The Yukon Party formed the territorial government, Dennis Fentie became the premier, and Ted Staffen became the speaker. Yukon Party
The Yukon Party (french: Parti du Yukon) is a conservative political party in Yukon, Canada. It is the successor to the Yukon Progressive Conservative Party. Formation With Prime Minister Brian Mulroney's Progressive Conservative federal government's decreasing popularity, the Yukon Progressive Conservatives decided to sever its relations with the federal Conservatives, and renamed itself the "Yukon Party" in 1991. The party's first leadership convention in June 1991 was won by Chris Young, a 21-year-old former president of the Yukon Progressive Conservatives' youth chapter. However, two Progressive Conservative MLAs, Bea Firth and Alan Nordling, quit the party within days of his victory, and formed the Independent Alliance Party. Steve Cardiff
Steve Cardiff (August 10, 1957 – July 6, 2011) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Mount Lorne in the Yukon Legislative Assembly. Political career He was first elected to the Yukon legislature in the 2002 general election and re-elected in 2006. He won convincingly both times. Glenn Hart
Glenn Hart is a Canadian politician, who represented the Whitehorse, Yukon electoral district of Riverdale South in the Yukon Legislative Assembly from 2002 to 2011. He is a member of the Yukon Party. Political career Hart was elected in Riverdale South in the snap Yukon election of November 2002. Ted Staffen
Ted Staffen is a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Riverdale North in the Yukon Legislative Assembly as a member of the Yukon Party from 2002 to 2011. He served as the 9th Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 2003 to 2011. Early life Staffen holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Simon Fraser University, where he studied the political evolution of the Yukon. Porter Creek South is an electoral district (Canada), electoral district which returns a member (known as an MLA) to the Yukon Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly of Yukon, Canada. It comprises part of the Whitehorse, Yukon, Whitehorse subdivision of Porter Creek and is the smallest riding in Whitehorse. Yukon Liberal Party
The Yukon Liberal Party (french: Parti libéral du Yukon) is a political party in the territory of Yukon, Canada. The party is not organizationally linked to the federal Liberal Party of Canada in any official manner. Sandy Silver, MLA for Klondike, is the Leader of the Yukon Liberal Party and Premier of Yukon. History After twenty years as a minor party, the Yukon Liberal Party won the 2000 general election and formed a government under Premier Pat Duncan. The government, however, was reduced to minority government status. Duncan called a snap election for November 2002 in the hope of regaining her government's majority. The party was almost completely wiped out, however, by the Yukon Party. Duncan won the Liberals' sole seat in the Yukon Party's landslide. Pat Duncan
Pat Duncan (born April 8, 1960) is a Canadian politician from Yukon. Duncan served as leader of the Yukon Liberal Party from 1998 to 2005 and as the sixth premier of Yukon from 2000 until 2002. Duncan was the first Liberal premier of the Yukon and the first female premier in the Yukon, the second woman in Canadian history to win the premiership of a province or territory through a general election, the first to do so by defeating an incumbent premier, and the first to do so by defeating a male opponent. Porter Creek North is an electoral district which returns a member (known as an MLA) to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon, Canada. It contains part of the Whitehorse subdivision of Porter Creek, as well as the subdivisions of Crestview and Kulan. Jim Kenyon is a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Porter Creek North in the Yukon Legislative Assembly from 2002 to 2011. He is a member of the Yukon Party. Archibald Donald Lang (April 3, 1948 – March 11, 2021) was a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Porter Creek Centre in the Yukon Legislative Assembly from 2002 to 2011. Political career He was a member of the Yukon Party and is Minister of Highways and Public Works and Minister of Community Services.
