21 Squadron SAAF
21 Squadron SAAF is a squadron of the South African Air Force. It was formed as a bomber squadron in Kenya during World War II and became a VIP transport squadron in the 1960s, a role which it performs to this day. The squadron currently flies two Dassault Falcon 50s, two Cessna Citation Is, a Dassault Falcon 900 and a Boeing BBJ aircraft. 21 Squadron is one of the most active squadrons in the air force with 606 VIP transport flights being made between 2009 and 2012. The Boeing BBJ is used as the presidential aircraft when the President of South Africa travels. The 21st Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron (21 AES) was a unit of the United States Air Force. It was created in 1957 in South Carolina, and inactivated on 1 July 1970. History The 21st Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and 22nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadrons were activated under the 1st Aeromedical Evacuation Group of the USAF Tactical Medical Center on 19 March 1957 at Donaldson AFB, South Carolina. On 30 June 1957, the USAF Tactical Medical Center and subordinate units were assigned to the 464th Troop Carrier Wing and relocated to Pope AFB, North Carolina. The USAF Tactical Medical Center was inactivated on 16 September 1957, while at the same time, the 1st Aeromedical Evacuation Group and 21st Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron were reassigned to Pope AFB in North Carolina. The 21st Airlift Squadron is part of the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis Air Force Base, California. It operates C-17 Globemaster III aircraft carrying out United States Air Force global transport missions, duties which involve airlift and airdrop missions as well as provision of services and support in order to promote quality of life for both soldiers and civilians in situations requiring humanitarian aid. The 21st Fighter Squadron is part of the 56th Operations Group at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. The 21st Special Operations Squadron is a unit within the 353rd Special Operations Group, United States Air Force based at Yokota Air Base, Japan. The unit has been activated and inactivated a number of times in its history. Prior to October 2007 it was with the 352d Special Operations Group, United States Air Force, United States European Command, and based at Royal Air Force base RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, England. The 21st Space Operations Squadron (21 SOPS) is a satellite control unit of the Space Delta 6 of the United States Space Force, located at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
