The 2019 Turkmenistan Higher League (Ýokary Liga) season was the 27th season Turkmenistan's professional football league, the highest football league competition in Turkmenistan. Physical culture and sports football club Merw ( tk, link=no, Merw bedenterbiýe-sport futbol kluby), also known as Merw Mary, is a Turkmen professional football club based in Mary. They play in the national top division; the Ýokary Liga. Their home stadium is Mary Stadium. Historical names *until 1966 – Lokomotiv *1967 – Murgab *1968–1989 – Garagum (Kara-Kum) *1990-until now – Merw History In 1967–1969 and 1990–1991, the team played in the Soviet Second League. The first big success of Merw FK after the collapse of the USSR came when they reached the final of the Turkmenistan Cup in 1993. In the final, they lost to Köpetdag Aşgabat with a score of 0:4. A year later, the team were the bronze prize-winner of the 1994 Ýokary Liga and took part in the preliminary round of the Asian Cup Winners' Cup 1994/95 season. Ashgabat or Asgabat ( tk, Aşgabat, ; fa, عشقآباد, translit='Ešqābād, formerly named Poltoratsk ( rus, Полтора́цк, p=pəltɐˈratsk) between 1919 and 1927), is the capital and the largest city of Turkmenistan. It lies between the Karakum Desert and the Kopetdag mountain range in Central Asia, near the Iran-Turkmenistan border. The city was founded in 1881 on the basis of an Ahal Teke tribal village, and made the capital of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924. Much of the city was destroyed by the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake, but has since been extensively rebuilt under the rule of Saparmurat Niyazov's "White City" urban renewal project, resulting in monumental projects sheathed in costly white marble. Ashgabat Stadium
The Ashgabat Stadium ( tk, Aşgabat stadiony) is a multi-purpose stadium in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for celebrations and football matches. The stadium holds 20,000 people and was built in 2011. History In 2009, on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow allocated funding for construction of a multipurpose stadium for events by 20 thousand seats. Construction led the Turkish company Polimeks. Opening of the stadium Ashgabat was held on 28 October 2011. The opening of the sports complex was attended by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. Anau, Turkmenistan
Anau (also spelled Annau, tk, Änew) is a city in Turkmenistan. Until 20 December 2022 it was the capital of Ahal Province. It is situated 8 km southeast of Ashgabat, to which it is connected via the M37 highway. Etymology The name Anau derives from Persian ''Âbe nav'' (آب نو), meaning "fresh water". Overview In 2003, the city built a new stadium, and in 2005 the National White Wheat Museum to house artifacts recovered from the area. The city received the status of "Cultural Capital of the Turkic World" for 2024. This was decided at the 39th session of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY. FC Balkan Botevgrad ( bg, ФК Балкан Ботевград, FK Balkan Botevgrad) is a Bulgarian football club, playing in the city of Botevgrad.
