2017 Thai League
The 2017 Thai League T1 (also known as the Toyota Thai League for sponsorship reasons) was the 21st season of the Thai League, the top Thai professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1996. A total of 18 teams will compete in the league. The season began on 11 February 2017. Fixtures for the 2017 season were announced on 12 January 2017. Muangthong United F.C., Muangthong United are the defending champions, having won the Thai Premier League title the 2016 Thai Premier League, previous season. Thai Honda Ladkrabang F.C., Thai Honda Ladkrabang, Ubon UMT United F.C., Ubon UMT United and Port F.C., Port have entered as the three promoted teams from the 2016 Thai Division 1 League, 2016 Thai League 2. Thai League
The Thai League 1 ( th, ไทยลีก 1), often referred to as T1, is the top level of the Thai football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Thai League 2. Seasons run from August to May, with each team playing 30 games (playing all 15 other teams both home and away). It is sponsored by Toyota Motor Thailand and therefore officially known as the Hilux Revo Thai League. In the Thai League, most of the games are played during Saturdays and Sundays, with a few games played on Wednesdays and Fridays. History Origins Thailand has had league-football competition since 1916. Before the inception of the Thai League, the highest level of club football was the semi-professional league Kor Royal Cup ( th, ถ้วย ก.) which was contested in a tournament format from 1916 to 1995.
